Un regalo muy especial (ESP/ENG)

Muchas veces me cuesta pensar en que regalar porque quiero que sea algo útil o también que sea algo único, a veces pienso en algo que sea gracioso u otras veces toca pensar que le gusta a la otra persona, es todo un reto sin duda y ahora que tenía la fecha de cumpleaños de una amiga encima logré dar con una idea de regalo muy especial para ella ¿Quieres verlo?

I often struggle to think of gift ideas because I want it to be something useful or unique. Sometimes I think of something funny, and other times I have to think about what the other person likes. It's definitely a challenge, but now that a friend's birthday was coming up, I managed to come up with a very special gift idea for her. Would you like to see it?

Mi idea era hacer un retrato de sus mascotas, ella tiene un perrito y una gata. Para esto le pedí a la mamá de mi amiga que me enviara unan foto del perrito que se llama Valentín.

My idea was to paint a portrait of her pets; she has a little dog and a cat. So I asked my friend's mother to send me a photo of the little dog, whose name is Valentín.

No tenía fotografía de ellos juntos, pero con las fotos por separado logre hacer la composición con las dos mascotitas juntas. Había elegido los creyones oleos pasteles de la marca Pointer para realizar esta obra sobre una cartulina de 300gr.

I didn't have a photograph of them together, but with the separate photos I managed to compose the two little mascots together. I had chosen Pointer brand oil pastels to create this work on 300g card.

Comencé por Valentín, un perrito muy peludo color gris. No sabía por dónde comenzar así que tomé un amarillo pastel y comencé a marcar la dirección del pelaje, esto también para tener una idea de donde estaban la luces.

I started with Valentín, a very furry gray dog. I didn't know where to start, so I took a pastel yellow and began to mark the direction of the fur, also to get an idea of where the lights were.

Pero como no terminaba de estar segura cual era el camino para resolver el coloreado del perrito, tome un azul oscuro y marque ahora las zonas de sombras que fueron reforzadas con un marrón encima del azul.

But since I wasn't sure how to color the puppy, I took a dark blue and marked the shadow areas, which were reinforced with brown on top of the blue.

Entonces me fui de lleno con el gris ¿te ha pasado que a veces dudas mucho con un dibujo? Esto me estaba pasando por completo haciéndome fallar al principio divino de "confía en el proceso".

So I went all out with gray. Have you ever found yourself second-guessing a drawing? That's exactly what was happening to me, causing me to fail at the divine beginning of “trust the process.”

Por suerte después de usar el gris, el perrito fue tomando forma. Con un ocre más oscuro comencé a dar matices al pelaje para luego por encima de todos los colores que ya tenía pasar el óleo blanco. En este tipo de técnica el blanco o los colores claros ayudan bastante a mezclar todos los otros colores.

Fortunately, after using gray, the puppy began to take shape. With a darker ochre, I began to add nuances to the fur and then applied white oil paint over all the colors I already had. In this type of technique, white or light colors help a lot to blend all the other colors.

Después de ver que el blanco me funcionaba a la perfección todo fue cuestión de ir poniendo capas de color. Matices azules y ocres mezclados con el gris que me ayudaba a profundizar los tonos medios. Para las sombras trate de no usar negro directamente, más bien ese color oscuro que puedes ver allí es la mezcla de un azul y marrón. Y así termino quedando Valentín.

After seeing that white worked perfectly for me, it was just a matter of adding layers of color. Blue and ochre shades mixed with gray helped me deepen the midtones. For the shadows, I tried not to use black directly; rather, that dark color you can see there is a mixture of blue and brown. And that's how Valentín ended up.

La otra mascotita de mi amiga es una gata llamada Mian, en alguna de las visitas que le hice a su casa había realizado una foto de la gatita. Aquí si la cosa se iba a poner complicada porque el pelaje de Mian es tricolor.

My friend's other little pet is a cat named Mian. During one of my visits to her house, I took a photo of the kitten. This is where things got complicated because Mian has a tricolor coat.

Al igual que para Valentín decidí comenzar con el pastel amarillo para marcar las luces en el pelaje y el azul para las sombras.

As with Valentín, I decided to start with yellow pastel to highlight the light areas of the fur and blue for the shadows.

Y bueno puedes ver que para hacer esta gatita fue todo más caótico. Tiene tonos verdosos, ocres, marrones que se mezclaron gracias al gris y al blanco. Cuando hice los ojos si tomo más forma.

Well, you can see that making this kitten was more chaotic. It has greenish, ochre, and brown tones that blended together thanks to the gray and white. When I made the eyes, it took shape.

Y para terminar decidí hacerle un fondo rojo mezclado con naranja. Parte de estos tonos rojizos también los refleje dentro de los dos animalitos. La verdad que enfrentar este dibujo me fue difícil, no tenía idea cual sería la mejor forma para colorear, pero una vez que fui agarrando el ritmo me pude dedicar con paciencia a hacerlos, recordando siempre que este era un regalo muy especial para mi amiga.

And finally, I decided to give it a red background mixed with orange. I also reflected some of these reddish tones in the two little animals. To be honest, I found this drawing difficult to tackle. I had no idea what the best way to color it would be, but once I got into the rhythm, I was able to patiently devote myself to it, always remembering that this was a very special gift for my friend.

Llegado el día del cumpleaños nos vimos a media tarde para tomarnos un café. Fue bastante agradable el poder verla ese día y darle ese regalo le encanto.

When her birthday arrived, we met up in the afternoon for coffee. It was really nice to see her that day, and she loved the gift.

Un regalo hecho con amor siempre será algo muy especial y la verdad que estoy muy feliz de que a ella le gustará.

A gift made with love will always be something very special, and I'm really happy that she'll like it.
