Un retrato para mi gato (ESP/ENG)

Hola ¿Que tal estas? Hoy quiero compartirte este retrato que le hice a mi gato Roberto con pintura al óleo, eso sí, mi intención no es hacer un tutorial de cómo usar esta técnica, más bien te comento un poco de mi proceso creativo.

Hello, how are you? Today I want to share with you this portrait I painted of my cat Roberto using oil paints. However, my intention is not to give a tutorial on how to use this technique, but rather to tell you a little about my creative process.

El óleo es una técnica clásica para trabajar la pintura, sin embargo, desde que estaba en quinto semestre de la universidad no la usaba y eso fue más o menos en 2017, así que hace rato que no trabajaba con esta técnica.

Oil painting is a classic technique for working with paint, but I hadn't used it since my fifth semester at university, which was around 2017, so it had been a while since I had worked with this technique.

Quería pintar a mi gato Roberto y justo en TikTok me apareció un tutorial de pintura al óleo para principiantes, esa fue mi señal para comenzar por fin a pintar. Así que agarré un lienzo 20 x 20 cm e hice el boceto sencillo con lápiz de color azul. Como guía tenía una fotografía que me encanta y que mi hermano en un atardecer le tomo al gato.

I wanted to paint my cat Roberto, and just then, a tutorial on oil painting for beginners popped up on TikTok. That was my sign to finally start painting. So, I grabbed a 20 x 20 cm canvas and made a simple sketch with a blue pencil. As a guide, I used a photograph that I love, which my brother took of the cat at sunset.

En el dibujo frontal del gato también marque las zonas donde irían las sombras para tener una idea a la hora de aplicar la pintura.

On the front drawing of the cat, also mark the areas where the shadows would go to give you an idea when applying the paint.

Y ahora si junte mis pinturitas y trementina para comenzar, en este caso no use aceite de linaza porque no había comprado así que trabaje con lo que tenía a la mano.

And now I gathered my paints and turpentine to get started. In this case, I didn't use linseed oil because I hadn't bought any, so I worked with what I had on hand.

Lo primero era cubrir ese blanco del lienzo, así que apliqué una capa bien diluida de un ocre muy parecido al color del gato, esto lo hice básicamente para generar una atmosfera cálida en la pieza.

The first thing was to cover that white space on the canvas, so I applied a well-diluted layer of ochre very similar to the color of the cat. I did this basically to create a warm atmosphere in the piece.

Lo siguiente fue fondear en tonos rojizos mezclando un rojo escarlata y uno carmesí principalmente, realizando un degradado con toques del ocre en la zona de luz y un rojo purpura en las sombras. Luego de esto, con un tono de ocre más intenso comencé a marcar las sombras dentro del gato.

The next step was to anchor the reddish tones, mainly mixing scarlet and crimson red, creating a gradient with touches of ochre in the light areas and purple red in the shadows. After this, using a more intense ochre tone, I began to mark the shadows within the cat.

Al día siguiente continue con la pintura y me fui a un espacio más abierto, no quería andar alucinando con la trementina.

The next day, I continued painting and went to a more open space; I didn't want to be hallucinating from the turpentine.

Seguidamente trabaje en los tonos medios, ese ocre mezclado con blanco, dejando los espacios de las luces.

Next, work on the midtones, that ochre mixed with white, leaving the spaces for the highlights.

Había zonas en la fotografía que se percibían de un color gris azulado, esas las logre usando un poco de azul cerúleo, más blanco y un toque mínimo del rojo y ocre. Básicamente una combinación de colores primarios, pero en distintas proporciones.

There were areas in the photograph that appeared bluish-gray, which I achieved by using a little cerulean blue, more white, and a tiny touch of red and ochre. Basically a combination of primary colors, but in different proportions.

El proceso con la pintura en general se trata de ir aplicando capas de colores, entonces una vez que logré poner las primeras capas en todo el lienzo, comencé a retocar tonos bajos, tonos medios y tonos altos.

The painting process generally involves applying layers of color, so once I had applied the first layers to the entire canvas, I began to touch up the low tones, mid tones, and high tones.

Por último fue trabajar en acentuar esas luces más blancas que estaban en los bigotes del gato. Para tener tanto tiempo sin pintar la verdad me gusto bastante el resultado, aunque lo más importante realmente es que me disfrute muchísimo el proceso.

Finally, I worked on accentuating those whiter highlights on the cat's whiskers. Considering how long it had been since I last painted, I was quite pleased with the result, although the most important thing is that I really enjoyed the process.
