Lore
The candle maker is one of many beings that cleans souls so they can move on in their journey. Attachments to life, and the pain they bring need to be let go by the soul. The candle maker draws these from the soul, drawing some into themself, and turning some into candles that burn until the soul is reborn into another life. The candle maker doesn't' judge the life that's lived, they simply help it move onto something they assume is better. The pot the wax is melted in is heated by the strands of the soul that are turned into a wick or absored into the wax. By the time it's drawn out it's turned into a candle that may or may not have an odd shape.
Drawing process!
I was originally going to have a much more complex image but between being a bit ill and drawing to embrace the sketch something new daily mindset I ended up simplifying it a lot from my orgional concept.

I also for whatever reason liked the idea of them just being a floating torso that just does it's thing.
Before I started doign colour i decided I wanted to start dark and add bright so I changed the line work to white an the background to a very dark purple.

The next thing I did was drawing the turbulent soul. Red is associated with anger which is why it's on the surface. Anger is a protective emotion that tends to be close to the surface, while I associate purple and blues with sadness, regret and grief, which are deeper.

I used the light pen brush to make the lines of the soul going to the wax crucible. Then I "cheated" and used a colour picker and a photo of a beezwax colour for doing the body. The hair is supposed to look like wicks.

Once I was happy with their candle crown I started working on the candles in the background.
I got bored of drawing the candles and decided to not have the shelves go the full length of the background. So all that was left was adding adding the light below the soul.
