These are are really hard to find good references for. When looking for references to draw from I often have to reject some AI nonsense, and stuff that's poorly labeled but for these guys there was so much AI nonsense. Partly cuase they're rare and hard to get photos of I'm sure. But gah, I wish there was a way to see the internet minus AI art when I'm looking for refrences.
Anyway, mini rant aside, here's the sketch I started with.
From here I did the base colours. I love how well the new brushes in procreate read the tilt of the stylus. it makes it really feel like turning a pencil or pencil crayon on it's side.
Then I blocked in the dark areas on the Soala.
From here I started drawing on top of the sketch layer. Which I love how the eye turned out. :)
I did a really rough background...which i was gonna fix later but didn't wanna at the time. I just did some brown for the trunks then dotted around with three different shades of green. I wanted to make it out of focus.
Then I did the foliage the cutie is hiding behind.
i darkened the background and a lot of the fur, but I still don't like how the closer of the two horns is. It looks too...fake? wrong?
I mostly fixed the horn and added the white to the ears. And of course signed it.
