Many are saying Monster Hunter Wilds is lacking in content while others say there is plenty to do if you take your time instead of rushing to the end game. I think both are semi-true but not because of the players playstyle (Rush to the finish vs Taking time) but because of the nature of Monster Hunter Wilds and its approach to 'Quality of Life'.
In Previous Monster Hunter games there were items, buffs, and even certain armors locked behind optional quests, completing requests from NPCs, and completing sub-objectives within the quest. The things unlocked were the reward for playing and the additional help from those items empowered the player to continue doing these side objectives. These side objectives also helped build the world and make players care for the quest givers, their reasons why they wanted/needed these things done, and also offered some insight into how 'people' lived in Monster Hunter.

In Wilds there is currently only a one time occurrence of these events happening and it is never brought up again. There is barely a quest description to remind the player of the event, there is no reason to go back and interact with that character again, and the unlockable reward isn't a paramount item to have. Even the optional quests in Wilds are lacking in story. The descriptions are copy pasted with only the location and team member sighting it being changed.
It is incredibly boring, it is not enticing to complete, and there is hardly any satisfaction once the quest is over beyond the thrill of the hunt. There is also, to me, a severe lack of care about the quest giver. It's another member of the hunting expedition that is requesting the quest instead of some oaf who wants a fur to please his demanding wife or a challenge issued by a scarlet armored man to defeat an incredible challenging monster.
I get that in the story the area we are roaming has been uncharted and uncontacted for over 1000 years but eventually supply ships begin venturing back and forth between the mainland and the wilds. Shouldn't that bring requests from the old world for new exotic things to be brought back that are only found in the wilds?
Even Monster Hunter World had a storied optional quest description and unique rewards for completing silly quest objectives. Why wouldn't the Monster Hunter Team bring that back in Wilds as well?
Monster Hunter Wilds is still a fun game and this is a minor gripe but I feel having these imaginative quest descriptions and the little stories entrenched inside them would give the player more of a reason to care for the hunt instead of 'Gimme Materials'.
