Hello guys~ ^^ How are you doing everyone? I hope you are all having a wonderful week so far.
Here’s my drawing for the Splinterlands Art Contest. For this week of the contest, I decided to choose a card among the demon cards of Splinterlands. We have some demon cards and after looking through the cards, the “Helheim Demon” card caught my eye.
You might think why I chose this character from all of the other cards, well, I have some reasons, first of all, I realized that I had never drawn this character before, and I always enjoy experimenting with new designs and characters. I really like creating something new and I thought it’s a perfect opportunity to draw this character. The other reason is that I liked his amazing features. I liked his big wings, his captivating yellow eyes, and bold horns and the magic ball that he is holding in his hands. I also liked the yellow things he has on his chest.
To do the sketch, first I decided to draw female version of this character. Many of you already know that I have this habbit of drawing female version of the male characters.
So, I sketched face of a young girl and then started drawing the important features. Features like the big wings because I wanted her to look powerful. and I also drew her long hair with some bangs. I changed the shape of the wings because I liked it more this way.
When I finished the sketch, Now it was time to color it. I chose dark skin colors to paint her skin, and then highlighted her skin. After that, I went on coloring her facial features, dress and hair. I didn’t know what color I should choose for coloring her hair because the real demon didn’t have any hair. First I decided to color it red but I didn’t like it, then I decided to color it black with few red hair strands. After that, I colored the wings and for making it look more realistic I added texture on it.
In the end, I drew a magic ball in her hands and worked on the lighting. I wanted the focus to be on the demon girl so I decided to keep the background simple. When I finish the drawing I add glowing little lights around her because I think it makes the drawing look cool. But after adding the lights I realized the same drawing technique is not gonna work on every artwork. So I removed it. I think it was because of the magic ball that it didn’t feel right.
I am really happy with how the final piece turned out and I hope you also enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed working on it. If you have any thoughts or questions feel free to ask me ^^ your feedbacks means a lot to me. I’ll be happy to see your comments.
And about the brushes: I use a simple sketch brush for the sketching and for coloring, I use hard air brush. I used to use medium air brush when I started working digital art but now I use the hard air brush, back then it was hard for me to manage the pressure of the pencil but now that I have more experience I like the hard one better, and for having a better result I used smudge tool to mix the colors better and having a smooth result. And for drawing the hair strands I use hair brush.
See you next time again. ^^
Now let’s see the progress~~ ^^
