Hello everyone~~ ^^ How’s everything?
I am here to show you my entry for the Splinterlands Art Contest. Today I decided to choose a card from the old splinterlands cards. To choose a card, I visited their site to find a cool character and after searching for few minutes I found “Wailing Wraith” card. This is actually one of the most scariest cards among the Splinterlands cards. I mean just look at those scary green eyes. The way she is smiling and she shows her scary sharp teeth. And also the way her green hair is flying in the air and the dark scary aura around her body shows she is really sinister.
For the sketch, I had this idea of drawing a more calm and less scary version of this character and make her look more relaxed and attractive because I love the features of this character and I wanted to focus on those features and also I am very afraid of drawing the scary characters. It is just to worked on the painting and looking at the character for hours. So I drew face of a woman as she resting her head on under her hand. The reason I decided to include her hand in the drawing was because I liked the way her fingers look, those red fingers looked really cool. In the original art the fingers looks like as it is made of iron or sth else but I decided to change it into red long nails! I think she looked way better. When I sketch her then it was time to draw the other important features of the character. The character’s hair is in the air but I decided to draw a normal hair style for her.
When I finished the sketch, I started coloring her face and body with different shade of purple. Coloring the skin with colors other than natural skin tones has always been a challenge for me. It is just really challenging because I have to take more time on rendering the skin and sometimes I have to delete the layers that I have worked on for hours. But one day I will get used to it. :D So after shading and highlighting her skin, I opened a new layer and added tint of red to make her skin look more alive before that it was just like a dead person. Then I went on coloring her outfit, lips and eyes. I liked the shape of her accessories and tried to make it look realistic.
After that, it was time to worked on the hair, I colored it green and then used a lighter green color to draw the hair strands and tried to make it look messy as much as possible. :D After that, I worked on the background. I tried different colors but none of them matches with the character so then I used purple and drew some patterns because I didn’t want it to be so simple.
When the painting was getting completed, I noticed I forgot to draw her earrings so I drew the as well. I also worked on her eyes and added highlights on her lips.
This painting took me around 4 hours to get completed. And about the brushes I used, I mostly used air brushes like the hard one and the soft one for painting the skin and for her hair I mostly used hair brush and light brush for drawing the single hair strands.
Hope you liked this portrait as much as I liked working on it.
Now let’s see the progress
