It isn’t a linear narrative, and neither is its treatment of time. Often, I found myself reading the future—events yet to happen—and even the magic of the ending. Yes, all within a single paragraph. Gregory isn’t our only narrator—or at least it feels that way at times. Carmen appears frequently, just as Olga did at one point.
El Plan Infinito is pure literature that viscerally cuts through reality. What we read is not fiction, but the lives of many characters whose reflections we can find in real life: a single mother, a witch, a woman who never recovers from grief, a man who grows beyond his principles, the futility of beauty, the foundations of family, the loss of family, migration, identity, and mental health. Alongside cultural and demographic contrasts between the U.S. and Mexico.

This is a book that is absolutely worth reading, even if it is a bit chaotic and the time jumps feel overwhelming. Closing the back cover left me with deep nostalgia for Gregory Reeves. I accompanied him from age five to his thirties; I felt his frustration and even grew angry with him for his actions, but in the end, I understood him. I can’t say El Plan Infinito belongs solely to him, but he gave meaning to that metaphor. Because yes—life slips away as we read an infinite plan that never seems to be completed.
Isabel Allende left profound lessons written here. This should be a more popular book than it is. It came into my hands by chance, as a birthday gift less than a year ago—but the real gift was the reflections it left imprinted.

Sea que conozcas estas palabras o no, el extenso vocabulario fue lo primero que me llamó la atención de este libro de Isabel Allende, porque en medio de la lectura paraba para resaltar todas las palabras curiosas que me aparecían, muchas las había escuchado pero no las había leído o comprendido bajo algún contexto.
Para comenzar con esta reseña debo advertirles que no es un libro de fácil lectura, tiene complejidad en su forma y sustancia, pero si se atreven a explorarlo no quedarán defraudados.
# ¿QUÉ ES EL PLAN INFINITO?
El Plan Infinito es la constelación de la vida, de quienes luchan y ganan, de quienes luchan y pierden. De quienes nunca se descubren así mismos, de quienes migran de lugar pero no de alma, de quienes aman con locura, de quienes aman en silencio, de mucha aceptación. El plan infinito de los planes del destino. El organigrama que no se cumple. Y la travesía intensa de los traumas.
Pero si no les quedó claro de qué va la historia, intentaré ser mucho menos compleja. Este es un libro que sigue la vida de Gregory Reeves, nuestro protagonista principal e hilo conductor. Con este libro, Isabel Allende nos mete a una película de transiciones, desde la infancia de Gregory hasta su edad adulta, exploraremos todos los temas que circundan la vida de un joven que va creciendo con heridas profundas pero ignoradas.
Además El Plan Infinito destaca la búsqueda de la esperanza del ser humano a través de diferentes praxis y estilos de vida. No es menos importante saber que conoceremos la travesía de un gringo migrante. Y cómo evoluciona la historia estadounidense antes de la guerra de vietnam y después de la guerra, esta evolución también impacta la atmósfera y a los personajes.
¿Ya les dije que no es un libro fácil de leer? Me tardé meses en terminarlo, siempre debía volver a algunos párrafos atrás para entenderlo. No es un discurso lineal, el tiempo tampoco lo es, en muchas ocasiones leía el futuro, sucesos que no habrían de suceder nunca y hasta la magia del final. Sí, todo en párrafos ceñidos. Gregory no es nuestro único narrador, o eso parece. Carmen es recurrente, al igual que lo fue Olga en su momento.
El Plan Infinito es literatura pura que atraviesa de forma visceral la realidad. Lo que leemos no es ficción, es la vida de muchos personajes a la que le encontramos retratos en la vida real. Una madre soltera, una bruja, una mujer que no se recupera del luto, un hombre que crece por encima de sus principios, la futilidad de la belleza, los cimientos de la familia, la pérdida de la familia, la migración, la identidad y la salud mental. Además de los principios culturales y demográficos entre EEUU y México.
# CONCLUSIÓN
Es un libro que vale demasiado la pena leer, a pesar de que es un poco caótico y los saltos en el tiempo también son una locura. Al cerrar la contraportada sentí demasiada nostalgia por Gregory Reeves, lo acompañé desde los 5 años hasta los más de 30 años, sentí su frustración y también me enojé con él por sus acciones pero al final lo comprendí. No puedo decir que El Plan Infinito le pertenece solo a él, pero él le dio sentido a esa metáfora. Porque sí, la vida se nos va leyendo un plan infinito que nunca llega a terminarse.
Isabel Allende dejó lecciones escritas aquí, este debería ser un libro más popular de lo que es. Llegó a mis manos por azar, como regalo de cumpleaños hace menos de un año, pero el regalo fueron las reflexiones impresas.
