Today I want to share with you three songs from what we know as plancha music. This is a repertoire of romantic ballads, full of feeling, heartbreak, and drama, which were especially popular in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. This term comes from a very everyday image: that of housewives listening to these songs at full volume while ironing clothes. These were songs that accompanied household chores and, incidentally, served to sing with soul and release any sorrow.
Ironing songs have intense lyrics, passionate performances, and melodies that invite you to sing along. Artists such as Camilo Sesto, Rocío Dúrcal, Pandora, Mari Trini, José José, and many others are part of the classic repertoire of this genre that continues to win hearts generation after generation.

Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes tres canciones de lo que conocemos como música de plancha. Se trata del repertorio de baladas románticas, llenas de sentimiento, desamor y dramatismo que fueron populares especialmente entre los años 70, 80 y 90. Este término viene de una imagen muy cotidiana: la de las amas de casa que escuchaban estas canciones a todo volumen, mientras planchaban la ropa. Eran temas que acompañaban las labores del hogar y, de paso, servían para cantar con el alma y liberar cualquier pena.
Las canciones de plancha tienen letras intensas, interpretaciones apasionadas y melodías que invitan a cantar. Artistas como Camilo Sesto, Rocío Dúrcal, Pandora, Mari Trini, José José, y tantos otros, forman parte del repertorio clásico de este género que sigue conquistando corazones generación tras generación.
Here in Bogotá, plancha music has its own space, and I know that more and more places are dedicating entire nights to reviving those hits that we all hold dear. There are bars, restaurants, and small theaters that organize Plancha Nights, where live bands or karaoke shows perform so that the audience can sing those ballads at the top of their lungs. I myself dedicate some time each day to playing this type of music in the restaurant, and I am very happy when customers, both my contemporaries and even younger people, enjoy it and sing along.

Aquí en Bogotá la música de plancha tiene su propio espacio y sé que cada vez son más los lugares que le dedican noches enteras a revivir esos éxitos que todos llevamos guardados. Hay bares, restaurantes y pequeños teatros que organizan Noches de Plancha, donde se presentan bandas en vivo o shows de karaoke para que el público cante esas baladas a todo pulmón. Yo misma dedico algún momento del día para poner este tipo de canciones en el restaurante y me alegro mucho cuando los clientes, contemporáneos y hasta más jóvenes, las disfrutan y las cantan.
