When I was in the US, I introduced so many people to photos of the Quokka, which I would argue is the cutest animal in Australia, so I was pretty excited to see it represented in the Conclave Arcana set. This artwork by @catrynart is even more cute than the Happy Quokka card.
So, I made it to Champs II in Modern which I have never, ever done before.... and managed to score myself a Glint prize which I have also never done before. It was a good season to be an AussieNinja.
Weirdly, as I mentioned last season I had intended to try and stay in the Diamond league to try for one of those glint prizes.
Except.... I couldn't work out how to do it. I remember a long time ago you'd get a pop up message when you passed the threshold from one league to another, asking if you'd like to stay in the league or collect your loot chests... but that pop up doesn't exist anymore.
After looking through the settings and doco, I asked the support channel who very quickly informed me that you can't choose to stay in a lower league. The Glint prizes for people in Diamond and lower (often the winners have scores that would cross the threshold into higher leagues) were in those leagues in the previous season.
I think that's a great system. You could potentially game it by allowing yourself to stop in a league you want to compete in the leaderboard on one season, to set yourself up for the next season... but I'm not sure the prizes are good enough to offset the lack of SPS and Glint from stopping early... which makes it a nice prize for pushing, but challenging to game.
I spoke last season about Yaba's Pickle and how I crafted Midnight Potions and saved Aura to either enter in the Gold Foil Arcane draw or just purchase the regular foil with the hope of getting a better card to sell and offset the cost.
The regular foil would cost 60,000 DEC for a maxed copy ($53 USD) or 400 Gold Foil Arcane tickets, which would also give you a regular foil for 80,000 DEC ($71.58 USD) + 4000 Vouchers ($75 USD) + 80,000 Aura.
What I wasn't sure about was how well this would be received by the community. If lots of people chased the Gold and Black Arcane cards, then the value proposition might not be worth it... and given the current versions of Regular, Gold and Black foil cards on the secondary market, I think people are throwing a ton of money at this card.
In the end I decided to not compete for Gold or Black foil versions and just buy the card for way cheaper on the secondary market. I got a maxed version for $38:
I now don't have enough DEC to buy a good amount of Gold Foil Arcane Fortune Draw tickets or compete in the Black Foil Arcane Auction, which is totally fine. I'm still super unsure about the resale value of these types of cards and I'm not personally excited to collect them.
In other news... I wildly overcalculated how many Battle Mage Wagons I would need. I currently have 91 but am only using 73... including my Rebellion and Conclave Arcana cards... hopefully I'm now set for whatever the next edition of cards is.
I'm still curious to find any data on previous prices of cards on the secondary market. Does anyone know where I could find that info?

CHAMPS II! In Modern!!!
What a glorious season! I actually didn't even realize I was even close to getting into Champs II... I was just playing and barely paying attention and then the Loot Chests popped up. Very exciting!
Decent Win/Loss Ratio that I'm happy with. I'm still kind of shocked that I got so high... I'm honestly not sure why or how, it's not like I've tried any new strategies or anything... maybe more people are playing Survival Mode and so I have less competition?

I'm actually not sure what the Glint Spent row is in the above table. I don't remember spending any Glint.
I'm currently sitting on 2,181,042 Glint that I'll just keep hoarding for the next 4+ months until the Conclave Arcana Reward set comes out. I really want to make sure I get a full regular foil maxed set of those cards.
