Weekend in the French Pyrenees (Artouste and Ossau Valley, France) [ENG-ESP]

 Hello everyone! A couple of weeks ago I went with my boyfriend to the French Pyrenees. A friend of his has an apartment in Artouste, a small village in the mountains, and we wanted to take advantage of the fact that he lent us the keys to go and do some hiking there. These days it is hot as hell in my city (Zaragoza, Spain) and I wanted to escape a little. In the French Pyrenees area it is always a bit cooler, it was about 10-15 degrees less than in Spain and at night I had to sleep even with a comforter. Although my main illusion was to see the Perseids, because my boyfriend's friend has a telescope in the apartment, and it was the first time I was going to use one, and to see these beautiful stars. >¡Hola a todos! hace un par de semanas me fui con mi novio a los pirineos franceses. Un amigo suyo tiene un apartamento en Artouste, un pequeño pueblo en las montañas, y queríamos aprovechar que nos prestó las llaves para ir y hacer alguna excursión por allí. Estos días está haciendo un calor infernal en mi ciudad (Zaragoza, España) y quería huir un poco. En la zona de los pirineos franceses siempre hace un poco de más fresco, hacía como 10-15 grados menos que en España y por la noche tuve que dormir hasta con un edredón. >Aunque mi principal ilusión era ver las perseidas, porque el amigo de mi novio tiene un telescopio en el apartamento, y era la primera vez que iba a usar uno, y de paso ver estas bonitas estrellas.  The apartment was recently renovated by my boyfriend's friend. Before it was a commercial space, and now it is a house. It had two bedrooms, bathroom and the living room-kitchen together. It had large windows to the outside. The entrance had a large step because it is an area where it usually snows a lot in winter, and thus prevent the snow from entering the living room. >El apartamento lo reformó el amigo de mi novio hace poco. Antes era un local comercial, y ahora es una vivienda. Tenía dos habitaciones, baño y el salón-cocina junto. Disponía de grandes ventanales al exterior. La entrada tenía un gran escalón porque es una zona en la que en invierno suele nevar bastante, y así evitar que la nieve entre dentro del salón.       We arrived on Friday night, so we stayed resting and the next day we got up early to make the excursion through the Ossau valley, specifically I wanted to do the one of the Ayous lakes, I wanted to follow that path and see several lakes. But in the end we saw less than expected haha, now you will see why. On the way to the parking of Bious-Artigues (which is paid, about 6 €), we stopped to take some pictures of a very nice waterfall we saw. >Llegamos el viernes por la noche, así que nos quedamos descansando y al siguiente día madrugamos para hacer la excursión por el valle de Ossau, concretamente yo quería hacer el de los lagos de Ayous, quería seguir ese sendero y ver varios lagos. Pero al final vimos menos de lo previsto jaja, ahora veréis por qué. >De camino hacia el parking de Bious-Artigues (el cual es de pago, unos 6€), paramos a tomar algunas fotos de una cascada muy bonita que vimos.     We returned to the car and when we arrived at the parking lot, we were told at the booth where payment is made that there were no places in the Bious-Artigues parking lot, that if we wanted we could stay in the Bious-Oumettes, which is cheaper (3 €) but is farther from the area we wanted to visit. As we had no other choice, we agreed to park the car here and make the tour on foot from this parking. >Volvimos al coche y al llegar al parking, nos dijeron en la caseta donde se hace el pago que no había plazas en el parking de Bious-Artigues, que si queríamos podíamos quedarnos en el de Bious-Oumettes, el cual es más barato (3€) pero está más lejos de la zona que queríamos visitar. >Como no teníamos otro remedio, aceptamos aparcar el coche aquí y hacer el recorrido a pie desde este parking.  Well, I must say that we are not very sporty people, I have an injured knee (I had meniscus surgery) and I'm not in shape, so although at first I saw that there was only 1km and a little distance between this parking and the other, then when I started walking I saw that it was all steep, uphill, walking on wet rocks, and it was long and tiring the way. I arrived at the top drenched in sweat, and my boyfriend too xD. >Bueno, he de decir que no somos personas muy deportistas, que yo tengo una rodilla lesionada (me operaron del menisco) y no estoy en forma, así que aunque en un principio vi que sólo había 1km y poco de distancia entre este parking y el otro, luego al empezar a caminar vi que era todo empinado, cuesta arriba, caminando sobre rocas mojadas, y se me hizo largo y cansado el camino. Llegué empapada de sudor arriba, y mi novio también xD.   Do you see the cars in the distance of the road? Well, there was the parking lot, I took the picture once we got to the top to see all the way we had done walking from there, I was taking air and drinking water to regain strength. >¿Veis a lo lejos del camino los coches? pues ahí estaba el parking, tomé la foto una vez llegamos arriba para ver todo el camino que habíamos hecho caminando desde allí, estaba tomando aire y bebiendo agua para reponer fuerzas.  We continued walking, this time the road was flat, until we reached the other parking lot (the one without parking spaces). Next to it, there was the first lake, and a small bar to have a drink. The bad thing is that they only accepted cash because there was no coverage for the dataphone there, so we could not take anything because we had no cash on us. At least the guy at the bar told us that there was a fountain nearby where we could refill our water bottle, because as I had sweated a lot getting there, I had hardly any water left. And my boyfriend, who didn't want to take the canteen I had prepared for him, was also drinking from mine. >Continuamos caminando, esta vez ya el camino era plano, hasta llegar al otro parking (el que estaba sin plazas). Junto a él, estaba el primer lago, y un pequeño bar para tomar algo. Lo malo es que sólo aceptaban efectivo porque no había cobertura para el datáfono allí, así que no pudimos tomar nada porque no teníamos dinero efectivo encima. Por lo menos, el chico del bar nos dijo que había una fuente allí cerca donde podíamos rellenar nuestra cantimplora, porque como había sudado un montón llegando hasta allí, ya apenas me quedaba agua. Y mi novio, que no quiso llevarse la cantimplora que yo le preparé, también estaba bebiendo de la mía.       From the bar you see in the picture, you could go to the left or to the right. We continued to the right, where there was a white tent that said they gave massages (I imagine for people who had to walk up from the other parking, like us xD) paying, of course. We continued along following the route marked with red and white stripes GR-10, which were the ones that would take us to the next lake. >Desde el bar que veis en la foto, se podía ir hacia la izquierda o hacia la derecha. Continuamos por la derecha, donde había una tienda de campaña de color blanco en la que ponía que daban masajes (imagino para la gente que tenía que subir andando desde el otro parking, como nosotros xD) pagando, por supuesto. Nosotros seguimos de largo siguiendo la ruta señalizada de franjas rojas y blancas GR-10, que eran las que nos llevarían al siguiente lago.    Along the trail we also saw a stand where you could have the service of making the route on horse or pony, paying according to the distance you wanted to travel. We continued on foot. >Por el sendero vimos también un puesto donde podías tener el servicio de hacer la ruta en caballo o pony, pagando según la distancia que querías recorrer. Nosotros continuamos a pie.    There was also a moment when we saw cows, and my boyfriend wanted to get close to them to see and photograph them. I was afraid I would get gored, but in the end they were very calm. There was a calf suckling on its mother's teat, so we didn't get too close to that one just in case. >También hubo un momento en que vimos vacas, y mi novio quería acercarse a ellas para verlas y fotografiarlas. Yo temía que me dieran una cornada, pero al final ellas estaban muy tranquilas. Había una ternera mamando de la teta de su mamá, así que a esa no nos acercamos mucho por si acaso.    Here was another sleeping baby calf. >Aquí había otra ternerita bebé durmiendo.   At all times, our route was uphill and quite steep. Despite the short distance to cover, being constantly uphill made it more tiring. We followed the trail until we reached the next lake, but there we saw that we still had 1h 45 minutes and 3.5 km more uphill, so we stopped to eat a sandwich watching the scenery, and decided to start the return. I was left with the desire to finish the route, but the walk from one parking lot to another exhausted our energies, so if we returned we would try to park in the parking lot above going earlier. >En todo momento, nuestro camino era cuesta arriba bastante empinado. A pesar de la corta distancia a recorrer, al estar constantemente cuesta arriba era más cansado. Seguimos el sendero hasta llegar al siguiente lago, pero allí vimos que todavía nos quedaba 1h 45 minutos y 3,5 km más cuesta arriba, así que paramos a comer un Sándwich viendo el paisaje, y decidimos emprender la vuelta. Me quedé con las ganas de terminar la ruta, pero ya el paseo desde un parking a otro agotó nuestras energías, así que si volviésemos intentaríamos aparcar en el parking de arriba yendo más temprano.      We went back on the road, this time down the hill. >Volvimos de camino, esta vez cuesta abajo  Almost arriving at the car, we saw several goats and passed by them. >Ya casi llegando al coche, vimos varias cabras y pasamos por al lado de ellas.   When we returned back to the apartment, it seems that the cows followed us because they were loose in Artouste, making a cowbell concert. That concert or noise of the cowbell hanging around their necks lasted until the evening, when we were trying to sleep haha. Fortunately the weather was cool and we were able to close the window so we couldn't hear them. >Cuando volvimos de nuevo al apartamento, parece que las vacas nos siguieron porque estaban por allí sueltas en Artouste, haciendo un concierto de, cencerros. Ese concierto o ruido del cencerro que llevan colgado al cuello duró hasta la noche, cuando intentábamos dormir jaja. Afortunadamente el clima era fresco y pudimos cerrar la ventana para no escucharlas.   In the afternoon we wanted to explore the main village of the region to which Artouste belonged, which is Laruns. The distance was only 20 minutes by car, but it took longer because on the way we found that there was a cycling tour, I am not very knowledgeable about this sport but it seemed important because many people on the side of the road were waiting for the arrival of the cyclists to see how the race was going. As all the cyclists and the assistance vehicles accompanying them had to pass, we had to wait for a long time at a standstill. >Por la tarde queríamos explorar el pueblo principal de la región a la que pertenecía Artouste, que es Laruns. La distancia eran solo de 20 minutos en coche, pero tardamos más porque por el camino nos encontramos con que había un tour de ciclismo, no estoy muy enterada de este deporte pero parecía importante porque mucha gente a los lados de la carretera estaba aguardando la llegada de los ciclistas para ver cómo iba la carrera. Como tenían que pasar todos los ciclistas y los vehículos de asistencia que les acompañaban, tuvimos que esperar largo rato parados.   Finally we arrived in Laruns, apparently it was a festival in this village. There was a small fair and stalls with typical fair food (churros, sugar clouds)... etc. In the afternoon the fog began to hover over us, because being in a high place in the mountains the fog usually descends, even in summer. >Por fin llegamos a Laruns, al parecer eran fiestas en este pueblo. Había una pequeña feria y puestecitos de comida típicos de feria (churros, nubes de azúcar)... etc. Por la tarde empezó a cernirse la niebla sobre nosotros, porque al estar en un lugar alto de montañas la neblina suele bajar, aun siendo verano.   When we arrived at the main square, we could hear music and a party atmosphere. There were people on the terraces, and further to the left there was a stall selling beers (which is where the music was coming from) apparently the guys serving the drinks were already partying, because they were also serving themselves alcohol and singing at the top of their lungs. What crowned the square was the church of Notre Dame D'Ossau. >Al llegar a la plaza principal, se escuchaba música y aires de fiesta. Había gente en las terrazas, y más a la izquierda había un puesto que vendía cervezas (que es de donde salía la música) al parecer los chicos que servían las bebidas ya estaban de fiesta, porque para ellos mismos también se estaban sirviendo alcohol y estaban cantando a pleno pulmón. Lo que coronaba la plaza, era la iglesia de Notre Dame D'Ossau.  In the same square there was a small store where they sold sausages, and next to it another one that displayed a very typical sweet of this area, which is called "the rock of the Pyrenees".
