Health Check

It is time for an another health check up for SL players. The last time I did this was in March 17, 2025. I believe this is an important check to do from time to time. After all hive paid us substantial amount of money from DHF so I want to check if common players are getting involved in hive and holding the token or not.

This is my standard chart, that I typically start with. This is HP along the X-axis (linear) vs Staked SPS along the Y-axis (log scale). The circle size are their hive reputation. Yeah, I know @tarazkp always show up disproportionately high, he is a reputed hiver! LOL! Outliers along Y-axies are vugtis and bravetofu. Outliers along the X- axis are me, yabapmatt and neoxian; and off course SPS.DAO! But at this scale there are no real surprises. Most of the plot is still empty!

Now we zoom in around 0 to 200K HP, and we get to see a lot of names there. Especially above 20K plus HP staked and 100K plus SPS staked, there are a lot of names.

Zooming further in, now focusing up to 20K HP, I see a lot of familiar names. I know quite a few names who moved significantly to the right on this plot over the last few months. @bobaphet, @beelzael, and @bravetofu to name a few. This is a very positive sign for hive at a variety of different level. The three names I randomly mentioned, different tiers of HP, and they are at hive for different lengths of time.

But they have one thing in common. They have powered up hive significantly. I am sure they have seen value in holding hive in their own way.

https://peakd.com/@beelzael/wallet > 5219 HP https://peakd.com/@bobaphet/wallet > 9402 HP https://peakd.com/@bravetofu/wallet > 87,250 HP

There are just random examples. However, the point is, these are Splinterlands players AND they are regular content creators who are holding hive and powering up hive as they believe in the greater good of the ecosystem and their personal investment success.

That ladies and gentlemen is how governing dynamics should work!

What is the investment thesis for Hive and HBD?

HIVE is a speculative, long-term growth asset. Its investment thesis is based on the potential of the Hive blockchain to gain mainstream adoption for decentralized applications, social media, and Web3 game and other app use cases. Its value is tied to the success of the ecosystem and is subject to the high volatility of the crypto market.

HBD is an algorithmic stablecoin designed to be pegged to the value of one U.S. dollar. Its investment thesis is distinct from HIVE and is focused on stability and yield. HBD maintains its peg through an on-chain conversion mechanism. Users can convert HBD into an equivalent USD value of HIVE, which helps to keep the price of HBD at or near $1. This mechanism is a key part of its design as a "trustless" stablecoin backed by the underlying value of the HIVE blockchain.

I have written a lot about hive in particular but not so much on HBD (Hive backed dollar). This is mainly because it was not easy to buy and sell HBD in the past. However, my friend @lordbutterfly tells me that within a few weeks there will be a new DEX launched on VSC network. There will be two pools, BTC-HBD and HIVE-HBD. This will make buying and selling HBD infinitely easier.

Here is HBD in savings for the splinterlands players. Most numbers are very low, especially considering that HBD pays 15% return just to keep the token staked. However, that is the opportunity statement. Since the number is low, there is lot of room for growth. For the record I only have about 1300 HBD in saving which is dismal, while my friend @bobaphet smokes it with 37,814 HBD in savings! I have my work cut out for me!

I think the main reason is the fact that most people don't know what HBD is and they are afraid of algorithmic stablecoin after what happened to Luna. However, since hive is small and niche. The issue that hinders our growth is the blessing in disguise in terms of safety.

It is important to understand that 15% is not exactly fixed, as there are risks for the APR to change and it depends of hive block-producers (witnesses). Also, there is always a risk for HBD to de-peg, however the have been near one for last 4-5 years. More details regarding HBD can be found here:

some of the info here is slightly dated!

Since July 2022, when we introduced the HBD stabilizer mechanism, the price of HBD never moved too far from $1, which is what a stablecoin should do. So, it is time to consider HBD in your portfolio, I know that I will be adding some to mine! Just give me an easy way to buy and sell HBD. As an investor, I might choose to hold HIVE as HP for capital appreciation and network participation, while holding HBD for passive income and as a safe haven asset within the ecosystem, understanding the inherent risks of a stablecoin and its variable interest rate.
