Hi all Hive friends, how are you all? Are you all well? I hope you are all well. This time I will post a photo of the Cemumar Tree.

Cemumar tree is a type of shrub that is often found in Southeast Asia, including Malaysia and Indonesia. It is also known by several other names depending on the location, such as these:

Jealous

Shine

Katuk in Indonesia

Mani cai or Mani chye (in Malaysian Chinese society)

Main characteristics of Cemumar:

A shrub that can reach 2–3 meters high.

The leaves are small, dark green, oval, and arranged alternately.

The flowers are small, red or purple.

The fruit is small and round.

Main Uses of Cemumar:

  1. Food Uses:

The leaves are eaten as ulam or cooked in clear soups and vegetables.

It tastes fat and slightly sweet.

Rich in nutrients such as:

Proteins

Iron

Calcium

Vitamins A, B and C

  1. Traditional Medicine:

Used to supplement breast milk for breastfeeding mothers.

It is believed to help strengthen the body and improve resistance.

Important warning: Excessive intake of cemumar leaves (especially in raw juice form) has been linked to cases of lung damage, as has been reported in Taiwan. Simple and cooked pickling is safer.

Planting:

Easy to plant using stem cuttings.

Likes areas that are damp but not too submerged in water.

Suitable for planting in the home area as a kitchen plant.
