One of the largest and leading companies in Internet and connectivity solutions just admitted that the future of businesses will be fractionalized and powered by micro-transactions.
This is Cloudflare and from recent reports, they are launching a stablecoin called NET Dollar.
In July, Cloudflare introduced a “Pay per crawl” solution that aimed to enable creators and website owners to charge AI agents or bots for accessing content on their platforms using the HTTP 402 Payment Required status code.
This was two months after Coinbase launched x402, a payment protocol that enables instant stablecoin payments directly over HTTP.
And now, Cloudflare has decided that its agentic payments solutions should be based on a stablecoin it controls, so the NET Dollar.
Anyone who has been paying attention could have predicted this all.
The growth of AI and effectively AI web agents over the last couple years was always going to necessitate a convergence of crypto and AI.
Some called us delusional for suggesting that AI needed crypto and now, leading infrastructure and service companies in finance and technology, generally, are actively collaborating to ensure that this convergence happens because it is evident that this is how we move from managed finance to automated finance.
Even Google has been doing what it does best to ensure this happens - developing open source solutions with leading industry players.
We are going to see a major shift in how money moves. Businesses will have to restructure and adjust their strategies to fit the autonomous future.
Micro-transactions/payments will become more common as AI becomes a bridge between individuals and businesses. The Internet, effectively, would be moving to the AI layer.
People will not be jumping on a browser or app store to get things done, they'll be going to AI applications or tools to do the job.
The agentic web means that “human online footprint” will become limited over the next couple years and AI agents will dominate.
