Hello, fellow Splinterlands Battlemages. It's been another week and there's so many news that I've been hearing and it seems like the game is heading in a very positive direction. As for me, I've been a little too busy and I haven't really played as much battle as I've wanted to. Sadly, I've been losing more battles than before because the cards that were lent to me were pulled out since its been over a month. So now I need to build up my card collections for myself.
High Archon Prices
It's unbelievable that the prices of archons are still very, very high compared to other Conclave Arcana rare cards. They're almost twice the price of starter packs which is crazy, in my opinion. So I have 2,000 DEC and I may buy one archon. But I decided to try my luck and open two starter packs instead.
I was hoping to get an archon with the element that I don't have yet but I unexpectedly got a duplicate of my Gorgug the Endless, whihc is not a bad draw, I guess, since I would have lost in value if I didn't get any archon at all.
Trying Out the Campaign
I've been forced to surrender some matches because I didn't have the elements required to play it. So I determined now is the perfect time for me to try out the campaign mode and get some new summoners, although they say they are a bit weaker than Conclave Arcana cards.
As for my first impression of the campaign, I like how it has a storyline that you follow along while learning the basics of the game. It certainly adds a new appeal, and I'm guessing for newer players as well. Having it be story driven makes the learning experience enjoyable unlike other games that you are bombarded with numerous pop-up texts explaining the mechanics.
And it's nice that you are given reward cards after certain milestones in the campaign. I received an Earth archon and immediately tried it out in ranked battle.
Although I didn't win, I saw that my opponent was also using an archon from the campaign mode. That one gave +1 to magic attack which is far more superior than what I had which also gives health.
The progression of the campaign is just right to slowly introduce the mechanics and some abilities and interactions. I like how it highlights the nature of some elements like how death has debuff abilities, and how to poison is remedied by cleanse.
I wasn't really paying attention on my first attempt and the enemy lineup is still hidden at that point. I tried using the water element but failed. Luckily, I changed my tactic in my second try by using melee and range cards and got the win.
I must say the sequences in-between matches are very nice. It sets up a good storyline that leads up to the battle. A perfect example is this scene where you'll hear THUD THUD THUD and then a troll breaks open the door.
As it turns out, that same troll was my next enemy. And it's a 55 health point monster with 8 melee attack. I was not expecting that at all.
And after numerous attempts, I finally got it done. It was clear that I should use the fire archon because of the speed increase. You also have to use the card with dodge and high speed to make sure that the enemy's attack misses a lot. But one hit is all it takes to break down the strategy and it can be a little annoying for newer players.
The Troll fight was actually harder for me to complete than the final match which only took me two attempts. In my opinion, the troll match should be given lower health, maybe 20 to 30. But overall, aside from that issue, I found the campaign to be really enjoyable and a perfect introduction for beginners.
