In 1895, Annie Cohen Kopchovsky's (Annie Londonderry) round-the-world trip ended in Boston. She became the first woman to ride around the world on a bicycle.

Annie Cohen agreed to take part in a bet between two Boston rich men. They argued whether a woman would be able to repeat the recently set record of a man – cycling around the world.   She had three children and an unemployed husband.

To receive a $10,000 reward, Annie had to travel around the world in 15 months, paying for all expenses herself: a bicycle, tickets for steamboats and so on.

Since all the newspapers were following the voyage, she sold autographed postcards, her interviews and advertisements on a bicycle. From the USA, Annie went to France, then to Egypt, Ceylon, China and Japan.   After winning, Annie Cohen received money, moved with her family to New York and started a new life as a well-known journalist.
