Perplexity is a company founded about 3 years ago by IIT graduate Aravind Srinivas from Chennai, along with a few others. The company is just 3 years old, but it is already doing a lot of wonders. People are using more AI these days than Google search. Once upon a time, when Google search was at its peak, it changed the way people used the Internet. Even today, we don't have any information that cannot be found using a Google search if we use the right phrase to search.
The transition is happening, and people are shifting more towards AI instead of just Google search. The browser is an important resource in all these. I don't know what is the core reason behind this but Perplexity has made an offer of about $34.5 billion for Alphabet company's Google Chrome browser. Since the search race is increasing, maybe they are thinking that this is the right time to change how people use the internet with the help of Google Chrome, as it is one of the most popular browser we have.
This is not the first time someone is showing interest on Google Chrome. Many other companies have tried to do this because they want to hold the grip of the best browser in the industry. So far, the company has not expressed any opinion on these requests, and there is also no official statement regarding the sale of the Google Chrome browser. We are able to see that the browser is still under development, and the company is trying to introduce many AI features into the browser.
There is a doubt on how Perplexity would be funding this offer if at all they get the deal. They have not raised enough money so far, as it has only been 3 years since the company was created, and they are pretty new in the business. My big question on this regard is to know why Perplexity would like to take over Google Chrome. If they would like to create a browser for their AI tools, they can use their existing browser or create their own with Chromium, just like how Microsoft enhanced their Edge browser.
I think probably the main reason to go for Google Chrome is the attract a big crowd with the help of the AI browser. Even though there are other rivals out there, they wanted to create the best AI browser and attract a bigger crowd. OpenAI is also working on their AI browser, and it might get released soon. The future of browsing is definitely going to change due to all these new things.
