In India, if we need to use state and national highways, we must pay tolls using a Fast Tag. This is mandatory for every vehicle crossing the toll booth. I believe this is the case in many countries, and with the help of this revenue, they can maintain and repair the roads when necessary. This is a good thing, but sometimes it can end up very costly for individuals travelling in their own vehicles.
Today I just came back home from a trip for which I paid about Rs 550 as toll charges. That's when I thought there should be some way to get a discount on this. I remembered my office colleague mentioning something about the annual pass. I then explored and have purchased the annual pass with which I can pass 200 times within a year for free of cost. Compared to the cost that I was paying currently, I think this is far better.
I explored the government website looking for instructions. They have some good functioning websites that helps in purchasing the pass for one year. The payment experience was also seamless. I'm glad that government websites, especially central government websites, are properly maintained and properly built. I hope the same happens with the state government websites too, but anyways that's an off topic for now.
I have now purchased an annual fast tag pass, and I noticed that it was also working fine during today's journey. I initially thought that 200 times might be a bigger number, but when I compare the savings, I think it will be a wise and valuable move. Whenever I crossed a toll with the fast tag now, I was able to notice that a transaction was pushed to me as a notification. The transaction confirmation mentioned that the cost was Rs 0 because I have the annual pass, and the number of times I can pass might get graduallybe reduced.
