And it's that time of the year again for me XD where I test my patience, my time management and the wits of the remaining braincells I still have. It is Sketchtember! And I am definitely not excited for this one XD I was actually debating on whether I would do it ti's year or not, or just focus on Inktober altogether this year. Well, I wish I focused on inktober but slack season and bad habits tell me otherwise XD So I ended up inking a whole sketchpad yesterday just to appease my irritable self. So first on my list is scarf. And since there are sooo many variations of scarves, I went with a head scarf. Then I went grayscale to make it fast, but also because I have been in a Grey mood for a while now. IDK I think it's seasonal depression or something.
Materials: Ink, Bic pen, white chalk, white gel pen Duration: 3 hours
Well, I usually take long because I had to let the ink dry, aside from that, I can finish pretty fast. I just really have a hard time drawing on white paper which is why I end up doing an ink layer or a color layer when I do traditional art like this.
As you can see, this is the dried ink layer. I was trying to already paint the shape outline but since I haven't really done traditional art in a while, I kind of overestimated the size and that's fine too since I ended up making it look like a shadow from this perspective
Then my sketch layer and a bit of render on the hat already. I noticed that I always work from top to bottom, mostly because I want to avoid getting dirty XD well, I still kind of get dirty in the process anyways.
TN I blocked out all the darker areas with a marker since I was conserving my pen ink and I know I have along journey to go this month since I was thinking of fully going grayscale this sketchtember compared to my more colorful sketchtember of the previous years.
This is when I was blending the blocked areas and while I was trying to pull off a more translucent look to make the scarf look a bit more transparent, like a chiffon scarf of sorts.
Then this was my first layer of highlighting and blending with the chalk. I usually tend to save this part for last so that I don't have to catch up so much on building harmony and contrast with the shadings, specially since sometimes it's hard to get a good contrast if your pen ink isn't as dark as it should be.
Then after doing some final highlighting with the gel pen, I am done~~
I hope you guys enjoyed this little sketchtember opening of mine. I really hope I can finish this year because I was sooo close last year ;;-;; Well, that's all for now! I'll see you guys tomorrow!
