Sketchtember Day 4: Sweater

@bananzell · 2025-09-05 22:00 · YAF - Young Art Fair

As promised, I am back! So this is my attempt at catching up to my broken streak and I had no intentions of posting this much in such a short amount of time but since I actually want to maintain my streak and feel like I have no choice but to, I'm going to have to apologize for being a frequent view on your feed XD So day 4 for me is sweater and September isn't really something I'd call sweater weather but it is the opening month for it and I love a good sweater too. Specially a turtleneck sweater like so:

Duration: 2 hours Materials: Ink, White ink, ball point pen

I have to go out tomorrow to buy a new gel pen since I left the one I use at the lab ;;-;; I am getting by right now with just opening up white ink cartridges then using a detail brush and a paint brush to do the highlights but still, the struggle is real. And I am happy I did this pretty fast!

My progression was pretty smooth with this one too because I didn't have as many distractions as I normally do.

So I started with my sketch and while doing the graphite sketch it kind of made me miss doing charcoal so IDK maybe after all of this, I'll have a charcoal month and let's see if I'll be needing a new sketchbook by then because I'm still using the one I bought 2 years ago but I didn't think of cutting the pages up until recently so that I could finish my art activities a little faster XD

Then I started inking and I think my hand got used to the sketching motion again because this initial pen layer and rough penning took way faster than it normally does for me. The initial penning usually takes me like an hour or so before I can slowly build up the detail layer but this one was done in probably 30 minutes or so. I have to tank the ink layer too for it though because the dark areas reeeaally reduced my shading time by half an hour.

Then more details ^^ I'm happy I'm just doing grayscale for everything because my perfectionist self probably would not have let me sleep tonight if I had done something colored and the layers were not properly blended. He looks a little faded here but I think this would have made a nice piece already, but the prompt word was sweater so I had no choice but to try to pull off the sweater part XD And honestly, that was definitely not easy when the sweater neck was a little detailed and I had no idea if I want to Detail it that much

But in the end, I couldn't really ignore the creases and shadows of the fabric so I did end up detailing a little. Nothing too fancy like I would normally do

Then the highlights and I am done~~ ^^

So that was day 4 for me even though it's the 6th XD and so maybe today I'll try to do 5 and 6 so that tomorrow I can get back on track. Wish me and my sanity all the luck you can give guys cuz I was definitely not expecting to get sick this September and I definitely don't plan to get sick again for the next few months. But I do plan to hike and go on trips somewhere for sure!

I will see you guys again later?
