Let’s Talk Security: Locking Down Your Splinterlands Assets

a bit of a different post this time, not about battles, card synergies, or new updates, but about something just as important (if not more): security.

If you’ve been in the Splinterlands Discord recently, you probably heard about the hack that happened last week. While the team reacted quickly and did a great job minimizing the damage, it’s still a rough thing to see happen. Whether it was done to “make a point” or simply for personal gain, these types of actions hurt the community. I hate that people even consider doing stuff like this.

We also talked about it during our weekly Team Possible voice chat, and it really reminded me to take my own security more seriously again. For the record, I’ve always kept my keys stored safely in different places, so this post isn’t about that. It’s more about the other layers you can (and should) add. Layers that give you time to act if something goes wrong.

Because let’s be honest: no matter how careful or smart you are, nobody is 100% safe. Hacks can happen. What matters is how prepared you are to detect, delay, and respond when they do.

So I figured I’d write this post not only to show what I did to improve my security, but also to maybe help others who haven't thought much about this yet. It's better to do it now than regret it later.

What I Did (in 3 simple steps)

1. Lock Your Cards

The easiest and most obvious step is to lock your cards. This prevents them from being transferred or sold right away if someone gets access to your account.

The fastest way to do this is via PeakMonsters. Just go to your cards, select the ones you want to lock, and choose how many days you want to lock them for. You can still use locked cards in battles — but they can't be moved, burned, or sold.

If someone does get access to your keys, the lock gives you a grace period. That might be just enough time to notice, contact support, and start damage control.

Fill in how many days you want to lock it. reminder if you want to sell transfer the cards it takes this amount of day before you can do that... This was one of the reason i did not do this before. But I'm convinced it better to have this security in place now.

Important to note: you can still combine cards even when they're locked. I used to think that wasn’t possible, which was one reason I avoided locking cards. But turns out, it works just fine.

2. Lock Your Land

Okay, confession time: I didn’t even know you could lock land until recently 😅. But yup. Turns out you can, and it’s super useful. Just like cards, you can lock your land plots on PeakMonsters. This is especially important if you’ve staked high-value plots or have active production going. If a hacker can’t transfer them out, you’re in a much safer spot.

Again, this small action adds a big layer of defense.

Same here choose the number of day you want to lock it and then lock it.

3. Set Up a Notification Service

Here’s where things get even smarter.

@bamlolx runs a very cool Discord notifier bot that can alert you if something sketchy is happening. Like cards or land being unlocked, or SPS being unstaked. Super useful if you’re not constantly watching your account 24/7.

To set it up, just join the Discord server: https://discord.gg/G42PtQEb Here the post of bamlolx about the service and more information on it: https://peakd.com/hive-13323/@bamlolx/secure-your-splinterlands-assets-with-our-discord-notifier

DM the notifier bot the following commands:

!sl unstake yourUsername
!sl card yourUsername
!sl land yourUsername

You’ll start getting DM alerts anytime a relevant action happens on your account. So if a card gets unlocked and you didn’t do it? Time to jump into action.

What To Do If You Suspect a Hack

If something’s up, don’t wait. Contact the Splinterlands support team immediately. The faster you act, the higher the chances of minimizing damage.

And here’s where I also need your help: Is there a Hive-side action we can take to temporarily freeze an account? Like a lockdown that requires the master key to unlock again? I’m not sure if that’s possible, but it would be a really powerful emergency tool. If anyone knows more about that, drop it in the comments or let me know.

Final Thoughts

Look, none of this is foolproof. Security is never about being 100% invincible. It’s about making it harder for someone to get to your stuff, buying yourself time, and staying informed.

Just like in Splinterlands battles, the best defense is layered. A taunt tank here, a reflection shield there, and now in real life, locked assets and alert bots.

I hope this post helps a few of you take some extra steps. If you have other tips or tools for keeping our accounts safe, I’d love to hear them. Let’s help each other stay safe out there.

See you all on the battlefield
