For those of you who follow me regularly, you probably know I’m currently on holiday, taking a well-needed break from work — and even giving myself a bit of off-screen time (well, at least more off-screen time than usual 😅).
For those curious, I’m staying on a small island off the coast of the Netherlands: Terschelling. It’s a beautiful place, perfect for relaxing, enjoying nature, and disconnecting for a bit.
The first couple of days here, the weather has been... well, let’s just call it typically Dutch. A lot of wind (force 5–6), some rain, and lots of changes throughout the day. But they promised better weather towards the end of the week — less wind, more sunshine, and slightly warmer temperatures. That said, I’m still really enjoying my time here. The island has a lot of charm, and it’s a beautiful place to just walk, breathe, and reset.

Sneaking in Some Splinterlands Time
Now, while my kids are enjoying some well-deserved screen time of their own, I finally found a quiet moment to write this blog — and of course, it’s Splinterlands-related 😄
This week I wanted to share some thoughts about the new Frontier mode. Despite being on holiday, I’ve been sneaking in some matches here and there — even with my alt accounts — and I’ve been playing mostly on mobile. I must say, the mobile experience is really solid. A couple of bugs here and there (like matches not loading correctly or previously played battles showing up), but overall I’d give the experience a solid 8/10. It’s clean, quick, and pretty intuitive, especially given the smaller pool of archons and unit choices available in this mode.
At first, I struggled to climb the ranks. The early matches felt tough, and it seemed like a lot of strong players were all hanging around the lower leagues. But in the last few days, I’ve managed to improve my win rate and make some good progress.
Important Tip: No Season Reset! 😲
One thing that some players might not have noticed yet — and this is pretty important — is that Frontier doesn’t have a season reset. That means advancement chests are only earned once. So once you’ve claimed a Bronze or Silver chest, that’s it. No resets every 15 days.
Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Honestly, I’m not sure yet (Nice experiment the team is doing here imho). On the one hand, it means you can take your time. On the other hand, getting all the cards just from playing might take forever (unless you decide to buy them on the market).
Here’s what it looked like when I reached Bronze I and noticed some new elements were being limited, so here it can become more interesting :
My Go-To Lineup (Don’t Steal It… Or Do 😆)
Now, I probably shouldn’t give away my “secret” strategy, but hey — we’re all here to have fun, right?
My favorite lineup that got me climbing the ranks most consistently is definitely the Death team. I’ve been getting some really nice win streaks with it. Here's the lineup I typically go with:

I won’t spoil every detail, but if you’ve played Frontier, you know that death cards have some really annoying but effective synergy.
Final Thoughts: Casual Mode, Serious Fun
Even while on holiday, I find myself enjoying this mode quite a lot. It’s really easy to hop in and play a few battles.
And what I like most? There’s no pressure. I don’t have to worry about Glint or SPS earnings. I can just play at my own pace, earn cards, and enjoy the strategy. It might be the holiday vibes, but for me, it’s been pure entertainment.
That said, the matches aren’t easy. If you’re a new player, you might struggle a bit — Frontier doesn’t really hold your hand. But I believe that over time, the stronger players will climb higher and things will smooth out for newcomers.
So yeah… I’m chilling on an island, watching the seagulls fight over, and climbing the Frontier ladder in between beach walks. Not a bad way to holiday. 😄
Let me know if you're also playing Frontier and what your favorite lineups are — I'm always curious to hear what others are cooking up.
That's all for this week, see you all on the battlefield
