Influence of the mental on the physical.

Welcome to a new week. ********* Health has been defined by the World Health Organization (W.H.O.) to mean… >*A state of physical, mental, social and emotional well-being*. From this definition, it is clearly seen that health covers all aspects of our lives, even the spiritual aspect of our lives as well. So there is nothing like focusing on physical health while neglecting all other aspects of health. Frankly, I am of the opinion that physical health is the least aspect to be worried about when compared to other aspects of health. ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmTi3EsY7Wupohcfreb2TQqkyYWiRgxc2YRVjQZEp5XzzL/1757324739067.jpg) *Let me break down the definition and make my point clearer*... **Health is a state of physical well-being**. This talks about our external and obviously tangible part of our body. Because the physical is easily  seen and is tangible, it is very easy to take care of it through *regular exercising*, *eating good nourishing foods*, *having enough sleep time and leisure*, *visiting the doctor regularly* and so on. All these that I mentioned above if carried out judiciously, will surely keep the physical aspect of our body in great health and shape. **Health is a state of  social well-being**. This also has to do with the physical but this aspect is intangible. It has to do with our associations and relationships garnered over time. One is considered socially healthy when he or she is doing well on a social parameter. This means that such a person is surrounded by friends, family members, well wishers and relatives that love him or her and they all have a good rapport flowing through their bond. There is no hostility whatsoever in their social bond. **Health is a state of mental and emotional well-being**. I decided to merge these two aspects because I feel that they go hand-in-hand. These are the unseen and intangible aspects of our  health.  Our minds have a great role to play and are very influential on how it operates. It is very able to influence and control all other aspects of our health. Now because these aspects are unseen, there is no physical way of taking care of them. You obviously cannot apply *iodine to your mind* when under stress nor can you give a tangible gift to your emotions to stabilize it.  ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmXNaD9GRiSa98QsSeQMdA3iBaadYBUsssEuMfY14PxMCk/1757324779077.jpg) When the mental health is good, our emotions will be good and this will also influence our physical health, keeping us fit and going and later, it translates to our social environment, making us live peaceably with others around us. As a matter of fact, doctors have discovered that a patient's mind has a huge role to play in that patient's well-being. If a sick  patient constantly gets reassured that they will get well, the patient's mind imagines them being well and hearty and soon, that imagination translates into a recuperative energy that causes the physical body to get well. This is why most doctors do not give their diagnosis in front of the patient; rather, they do so discreetly with a family member and urge the family member (s) to be positive while they cone up with a solution. Most doctors have even begun using comedy skits as a therapy for curing their patient's mental health because they understand the correlation between the mental and the physical. It is whatever has been played out by the mental that is revealed in the physical body. ****** So with this, paying attention to our mental health as well as our physical health is Paramount.
