Say please.

Thank you is very important to say, as @riverflows points out very nicely in one of her recent posts. I'm one who prefers "Thanks" in all it's variations, including "My heart sings with boundless gratitude towards your aiding hand in troubled times!"

But was is "please"? I thought about that a little. What do we mean when we say it? It's coming with pleasing, so the etymology is probable the imperative of to please - hence, please me! Now, dirty mind that I have, I can't stop thinking of that whenever I say "please". Both good and bad. I hope it doesn't affect my openness to saying "please" to people I'd rather not have pleasing me, in that sense.

Though I doubt it. I say please at least as often as thank you. There's that one song that always pops up in my head when I think about this word. It starts slow, nice and easy - until that Milchbubi as we'd call him in Germany starts shouting "Please". Goosebumps!

Saying please is also a deconstruction of hierarchy. The person asking for the favor acknowledges that the other person is in the position to help. In most cases, it's a good idea to either get on the same level or even pretend to be on a lower level, petting the ego of the other. Though that's probably not consciously, it still helps. But it leaves room for abuse. Being in the unique position to help, or to do something for the other person, and forcing them to beg for it can be an extreme - if the other doesn't understand the meaning of the word "no".

This title is another one from the indie/alternative rock band that I like quite a lot because they are, as their music, a little weird. Italian band, danish name, that combo by itself is already funny. I think this song is already very popular, though I personally got exposed to it quite recently, like half a year ago.

A no is a no. I'm usually quite fine with that. Acceptance is due, and I'm enough of a problem solver that I can always find and alternative solution. It's also a show of self esteem to accept it, without falling into a black hole of depression. If you rely on someone else to keep you happy, it's not happiness. It's a band-aid, not a cure.

Amy Winehouse is one of my all time favorites. We played her "Back to Black" yesterday, since finally one of the greatest singers in town came to the Jamsession again. We dusted up a lot of the songs that we sang with her 4 years ago. It's funny because she doesn't speak any English, but still managed to get through the songs nicely. And her voice is so amazing, nobody cares about words, anyway.
