My first post on hive garden am so happy to be here Hello everyone trust you are doing well today Lanting corn for the first time felt like starting a small but exciting journey. I didn’t have a big farm just a little corner of my garden but my heart was full of hope. I pictured tall green stalks, silky tassels, and golden cobs ready for my pot.
I planted each seed carefully, covering them with soil and saying a little prayer. Every morning, I would rush to the garden to check on them. The day I saw the first tiny shoots, I felt so proud. Week by week, the stalks grew taller, their leaves dancing in the wind, and I imagined the taste of sweet, fresh corn.
Then the rains came. At first, I was happy. I thought the extra water would make the corn grow even better. But the rain didn’t stop. The ground became too wet, and some stalks started leaning over, too weak to stand. I tried to support them, but it wasn’t enough.
As if that wasn’t enough trouble, pests arrived small and destructive. They attacked quietly, and by the time I noticed, the damage was already done.
When harvest day finally came, I walked to the garden full of excitement. I peeled back the first husk and my heart sank. The cob was half-eaten, with worms inside. I checked another same thing. Out of all my plants, only a few cobs were good enough to eat.
I sat there for a while, holding one ruined cob, feeling all my hard work had been wasted. It was painful months of care, watering, and weeding, all for such a small result.
But after thinking it over, I realized it wasn’t a complete loss. Yes, it was my worst harvest, but it was also my first real lesson in gardening. I learned that farming is more than planting and waiting it’s about patience, preparation, and finding ways to protect your crops from what you can’t control.
I cooked the few cobs I had. They were small, but the taste was special because I knew the effort behind them.
Next season, I’ll be ready for the rain, the pests, and whatever else comes my way. My first harvest may have been my worst, but it has prepared me for my best. 🌽
