Alberobello is a beautiful, very unique small town in Italy’s Apulia region. Visiting this part of Italy was a dream for many years. I was booked for a job in a forest for a big event about an hour away. The last day I woke up at 6 o'clock just to be able to go to see the old houses for 30 min and take some photos.

I am really looking forward to going back and spending some proper time there. The architecture is very inspirational and has such a fairytale feeling.

A trullo (plural, trulli) is a traditional Apulian dry stone hut without any mortar or cement, they are with a conical roof and could be described as a rural building type. The first records of Trulli being built in Puglia date from around the 14th century. Trulli were constructed as temporary field shelters and storehouses. The golden age of trulli was the nineteenth century.

There are many theories behind the origin of the design.

"One of the more popular theories is that due to high taxation on property, the people of Apulia built dry stone wall constructions so that they could be dismantled quickly when tax inspectors were in the area."

It rained for four days, it was a gloomy week in September.

Many Trulli have symbols painted onto their cones. The symbols have religious or mystical meaning, they were also a protection for the owners.
