As you might have noticed from the lowered rate of posting on Hive... well, it is a bit of a busy period for my wife and I... lots of music, and just general life stuff. Hopefully, it will start to ease off in a month or two... but until then, there are lots of ensemble grants to write and plan.... and any moments of time that I have, I try to snatch some gardening time before we are completely overwhelmed by the spring onslaught of growth!
Some of our ground cover that we planted a year ago is now starting to take hold... and to flower as well! We will still need to do a good amount of weeding to kept it dominate the space... but thankfully, it hasn't died back!

... and the bulbs are starting to sprout as well! The daffodils are leading the way... it has been quite a warm past few days, but there appears to be a sudden cold snap incoming that might wipe these guys out. The tulips are still dormant... they have popped up, but aren't blooming yet.

... but my wife has generally been looking after that area. My big project is to continue the deep de-grassing of the back area in order to get it ready for the sandy loam and the new rolls of grass. I'm using the heavier mattock now... and removing about 5-10 centimetres of the topsoil along with as many roots as possible. It's pretty slow going, but it does need to be done like this or it will just start growing through the new grass which needs to take hold and dominate the area.

The San Ana couch rolls haven't awakened yet from dormancy from the early winter laying.... but some of the older grass has, which means that they do have a head start. But I'm starting to pry them out... and hopefully the couch rolls will start to choke the old stuff when it wakes up properly. Fingers crossed...

... meanwhile, the herb garden is still going strong. The two Rosemary bushes are unstoppable... I have to figure out a way to use a good more of these. I used to make Rosemary crackers... perhaps it is time to start doing that again!
