Heh heh.... stinky bids are the best! And the previous week, I picked up two more auction wins with near spot bids... of course, there were about 100 others that failed to win, but on the plus side... I'm not on the hook for a 10000 cumulative bill! Still, I live in hope that I will win a nice gold sovereign for 300 AUD because everyone overlooked it and forgot to bid on it...
So, I've been trying to snap up some of the Australian sterling silver State Coins on a regular basis... of course, I have a particular fondness for the states that I have some personal connection with... but in the end, I'll pick up anything! And I sort of have moved around quite a bit...
Now, some of them come just as regular naked coins, others in capsules... and then there are plastic sleeved ones, and finally, the ones that are sealed in a really nice cardboard coloured packaging with lots of nice pictures from the state.

The first one that I picked up was one of the old school plastic sleeved ones with a sleeved card giving some information about the coin and the state. A Victorian one for its 150th anniversary with the coin stamped with the Coat of Arms from that state. Actually, I did find the blurb about the state, Melbourne, and the Coat of Arms to be quite interesting... things that I didn't know!

And on the other side, the Queen of course... and more on the coin in the inlay card. What was really cool was that the coin sleeve folded out handily as well!

... and then we move on to the South Australian 150th Jubilee coin! Unfortunately, the coin didn't fold out as it was in its card inserted into the place where the coin description was in the Victoria coin. And there was much less information on the card about the state and Adelaide. In fact... none... which reminds me, perhaps I needed to turn the card over?
Anyway, the logo for South Australia... hmmm... weirdly fascist colours.... Not really a fan! But the coin itself features the Coat of Arms for the state... but I want to know more!

... and again the Queen on the other side.
Now Sterling Silver isn't quite the same as full fat silver... but it is still cool none the less! And there is something pretty cool about the Australian State series... I would still prefer to have the newer ones that have the coloured cards with the coin embedded... but these old school ones are still pretty nice!
