Hmmmm... I wonder if other gardeners also have the fear of an incoming spring? Well, obviously not on the other side of the planet... but I have it here. Already the blossoms on our hose tree are blooming, and one day... we will figure out what the hell it is... but until then, the hoses are there for another year... another year of not yet having time to lay out the irrigation again after digging out a lot of it... but there is no hurry, we don't have plants that rely too heavily on the water as we have mostly native plants... but still, it would be nice to finally clear the hoses of this tree...
... and even though the weather is wet, cold, and still a touch windy... for some reason the bulbs have all started to poke their heads up... in this area, and also on the front side where they skipped a season. I'm wondering if they have come up too early... and will be slaughtered by a sudden change... but for the moment, they are coming up healthily, and soon we should expect a little flourish of dandelions and tulips.
... and the reason that I'm fearing the spring... well, I still have about 20 or so square metres of grass to uproot and prepare for the new grass rolls... and I do it slowly, an hour a day... which clears about half a metre squared. It is much slower now, as I'm in an area where there are deep rooted cooch grass... and any little node left behind will result in the zombies rising again... but I'm hoping to choke them with the replacement grass.. which is also a hardy cooch of a different variety.
Anyway, I need to get this done whilst the ground is still soft... as soon as spring starts, the existing grass will spring back to life... and by summer, the ground will be pretty solid and much harder to dig and pick through...
... so, I've got a couple of months at most before I need to have the area cleared... it should be fine, but the clock is now definitely ticking!
