I'm trying to spend an hour or two in the garden each day at the moment... it is a short lull in the concert schedule... I have a few days off before going away again... and so, I'm trying to squeeze in as much stuff as possible... of course, I'm not going to be able to finish anything... but baby steps is better than doing nothing.
So, one of the things that needs to be done is cover this area over with river rocks to suppress weed growth.
I had wanted to have another few veggie planters in this area, but my wife thought that we had enough already. So, this side has a couple of Camelias and Blueberry bushes instead.
I have learnt my lesson from a different area, where I just plonked river gravel straight down onto the soil... which led to weeds and grass growing up through the rocks... the relaying of rocks with weedmat underneath is still a work in progress.. but I wanted to do this area first, as there were the shoots of new grass and weeds starting to pop up.
So... first things first... weed matting!

All fully covered and held down by some small rocks... and I then put small amounts of river gravel on top just to hold everything down until I can properly cover them.
Not quite sure how close to the bushes I should go, but I figure that as the bushes grow, they will suppress some of the growth themselves due to the shading. Plus, I don't really want to cook their roots either!

I hadn't noticed, but the Camelias were already sprouting little flowers1 These will be really nice when the plant grows out to full bushiness! Nice fragrance, and I think they are pretty good bee attractors as well?
