Hello there, black-and-white photography lovers!
It is weird to think some years ago I was totally opposed to the idea of teaching. It is my major, but not my passion. I can still say the same, but there is something else around this, I need money and get it doing some kind of job.
Anyways, three years ago I started taking music classes. More specific I started learning more about the Venezuelan Cuatro. My teacher used to tell me form time to time that I should be teaching. I think it was a way not only to acknowledge the skills I developed, but also to get me started on another path of learning. Only by teaching something we can unlock more aspects of anything we think we know. And we might learn we do not know it as much as we would like; or, on the contrary, we know even more than we thought.
A little bit more than a month ago, I decided to get more of my skills into the showcase at the academy and talked about creating a course for Venezuelan Cuatro. It is for people who want to learn the basics of the instrument to start playing. The date of the course came by and I only have one student enrolled. However, this is a sort of blessing in disguise. It has given me the chance to put this course in a vacuum and understand the scope of it. What are truly the basics of playing sn instrument? You would be surprised how things need to go to get people used to some that goes against some many natural movements as playing an instrument.
It also helps that my students likes having her photo taken so I can keep track of some of the things we study. It is an interesting experience.
