Hello people of Hive, happy Sunday to you all. I hope you are having a great day of rest so that tomorrow we can continue with our work activities. On this occasion, I want to participate and give my support to this community by sharing my words and thoughts on mental health and the digital age, since I think it is very important to talk about this topic. I encourage everyone to read my reflection.
When I was a child I didn't have internet or anything like a computer or a phone and they already existed but I couldn't have that due to lack of resources, I barely had a television, and if I watched movies and television programs with my brothers, but our fun was going to play, walk in the square or we went to the river, those were moments of fun for us and after having a good time we came home tired and immediately we went to sleep. I came to know the telephone and the computer when I was already an adult, and over time the Internet came into my life and it's very surprising how technology has grown. But at what cost, at the cost that children no longer want to play, now they only want a phone.
And it's not a bad thing to have an electrical device since it provides a lot of distraction, but it does cost mental health, in the sense of losing sleep, and sleep is important, or some games that cause addiction and some even cause anxiety and frustration, even out of control anger, that's what I've seen in recent years. As a mother, I've struggled with this with my youngest son, as it was very difficult for him to adapt to school since all he wanted was to be on the computer, and then on his phone, and without realizing that he was missing out on the world around him.
And the solution is not to deprive him of the device but to teach him how and when to use it, you can not eat and be on television at the same time since our brain makes our body work according to the activities you focus on, it's like the time I had surgery and I was resting, since I was in a treatment every moment they gave me the medication, and in one of those I was using the phone and they told me that when I was taking the treatment I should not use the phone since the treatment would not have an effect, in short the brain was receiving the message and since it was carrying the message it could not divert that, and I understood why the doctor told me that. And I put the phone aside and focused on the treatment, how important it is for us to take care of our mental health depends on choosing what is more important to us, like stop eating or put down the phone, or stop sleeping or put down the phone. But I don't know you can be doing both things at the same time.
Many people have learned to use this innovative technology as their main resource for living, as well as my oldest daughter who knew how to take advantage of this means of technology and played a game that gave her her phone, since she didn't have one, and after having her phone she looked for options to continue acquiring her resources thanks to the phone and the internet and it has gone well for her since it helps her with her studies or anything she wants.
The digital age has become increasingly important for people who know how to take advantage of it, and it has also been the cause of problems and illnesses, such as mental health issues. But I know we can change that. We can give advice or do outdoor activities and forget about the phone and the internet, even for a day. Let's find distractions and help our minds. Thank you for joining me. Greetings to everyone.
