Hello, hello people of the internet. How are you? Today I'm excited to share with you my opinion about what I consider to be one of the most beautiful Studio Ghibli films I've ever seen. I don't understand why I've never seen it before, although I confess I've heard of it. >Hola Hola gente de internet ¿Cómo están? Hoy estoy emocionada de poder compartir con ustedes mi opinión acerca de lo que considero una de las películas más bonitas del Estudi Ghibli que he visto, no entiendo como es que nunca la había visto antes, aunque les confieso que sí había oído hablar de ella.
Pom Poko, or The Raccoon War, as it is also known, tells the life and especially the struggle of the tanukis, a species of raccoon that, according to Japanese folklore, has the ability to transform into anything, even people. Their struggle consists of trying to protect the ecosystem in which they live, while humans, for their part, are committed to the progress and expansion of urban territories.
Pom Poko, o La Guerra de los Mapaches, como también se le conoce narra la vida y sobre todo la lucha de los tanukis que son una especie de mapaches que, según el folcklore japonés poseen la habilidad de transformarse en cualquier cosa, incluso en personas, la lucha de ellos consiste en tratar de proteger el ecosistema en el que viven, mientras el ser humano por su parte apuesta por el progreso y la expansión de territorios urbanos.

From the first moment you begin to discover the plot you realize that the main objective is to make us react and above all analyze what progress truly means, or to what extent progress represents a problem, nobody disagrees with the construction of buildings and roads, but the problem begins when the habitats of the animals are not respected, when they are forced to move and little by little they reduce their territory to nothing, in fact I know a first-hand case, one of my paternal uncles bought a house in a housing project that was close to green areas and mountains, and in order to build that urban development they destroyed the habitat of the monkeys, which from time to time entered the houses and people got angry, but if we stop to think at least a little, it was the people who invaded the monkeys' land, not the other way around 🤷♀. >Desde el primer momento en que empiezas a descubrir la trama te das cuenta que el objetivo principal es hacernos reaccionar y sobre todo analizar acerca de que es lo que significa el progreso verdaderamente, o hasta donde el progreso representa un problema, nadie está en desacuerdo con que se construyan edificios y carreteras, pero el problema empieza cuando no se respetan los hábitat de los animales, cuando los obligan a desplazarse y poco a poco van reduciendo su territorio a nada, de hecho conozco un caso de primera manos, uno de mis tíos paternos compró una casa en un proyecto habitacional que estaba cerca de aéreas verdes y montañas, y para poder construir ese urbanismo acabaron con el hábitat de los monos, los cuales de vez en cuando ingresaban en las casas y la gente se enojaba, pero si nos ponemos a pensar al menos un poco, la gente fue la que invadió el terreno de los monos, no al contrario 🤷♀.
The tanuki represent the resistance and organization of the most vulnerable, although the scenes are very funny, especially when they were learning transfiguration techniques. The message embedded in this is that when you work with organization and discipline you can go far; they are the example that in unity there is strength, although in their desperation the tanuki resort to increasingly radical methods that even involve direct violence against humans, which is falling into vandalism. But this also happens in real life; when ideals get out of control, the objective of the struggle is lost and it turns into fascism.
Los tanukis representan la resistencia y la organización de los más vulnerables, a pesar de que las escenas son muy graciosas, sobre todo cuando estaban aprendiendo técnicas para la transfiguración. El menaje que hay inmerso en esto es que cuando se trabaja con organización y disciplina se puede llegar lejos, ellos son el ejemplo de que en la unión está la fuerza, aunque en su desesperación los tanukis van recurriendo a métodos cada vez más radicales que incluso implican la violencia directa contra los humanos, lo cuál es caer en vandalismo, pero esto también sucede en la vida real, cuando los ideales se salen de control se pierde el objetivo de la lucha y se convierte en fascismo
I like that Ghibli consistently shows interest in elements of Japanese folklore and almost always uses nature as its central theme, exploring complex but important issues such as the overexploitation of natural resources, the consequences of human ambition, and the struggle for survival. The Taukis try to adapt because they ultimately have no other choice, but from their perspective, progress is nothing more than an imposition and an attempt at human domination.
Me gusta que Ghibli siempre muestra interés por los elementos del folclore japonés y casi siempre toma la naturaleza como tema central, explorando asuntos complejos pero importantes como la sobreexplotación de los recursos naturales, las consecuencias de la ambición humana y la lucha por la sobrevivencia. Los Taukis intentan adaptarse porque al final no tienen más opción, pero desde su punto vista el progreso no es más que una imposición y un intento de dominación por parte de los seres humanos.
