Work or having work provides us the economic stability for sustaining our needs, wants and for us to be able to navigate in this modern life. Somehow work can also be the cause of stress or the source of unhappiness as affected by different factors. For sure, many of us wish to stop working and just do something that is stress-free and without pressure from colleagues or bosses, or not having to exert much effort just to earn meager income.
If only I didn’t need to work and monetary compensation was not a concern, I wish I could do different exciting activities and some other things that could be beneficial for my inner peace. Here are some of the things that I would do.
First, I thought of going back to my birthplace and renovate our old house. I remember my mother mentioned that my father built our house along with his comrades all by themselves using just the resources within the local community.
Our old house in the countryside was built in 1966. The only sad part is that my parents already passed this world but I would feel grateful and fulfilled by doing this. It’s also a way for me to honor my parents and keep their memory alive. This renovated house would serve as our vacation house or reunion house with long lost relatives. Also, I could invite my friends and stay there for indefinite period of time and work from home as long as there is internet connection then explore the beauty spots within the area.
Second, travel within the country and overseas. I haven’t thought of specific places to visit locally but I prefer areas that have a different weather from where I live. Beaches are more accessible for me than places that have cooler temperature so I want to go somewhere a bit different. Thus, places or cities in higher altitude are the criteria for this. Perhaps places such as Baguio City, Tagaytay City, Malaybalay City (Philippines), etc. suit this imagination.
For overseas trip, my dream is to travel to some EU countries. I have a close friend who works in Germany so I might start from there then travel by train to other EU countries and see the wonderful scenic views while on a train with a lot of discoveries along the way.
I would stay in these places both locally and overseas for indefinite period of time and explore their culture, food, join festivals and visit their historical spots.
Third, I would buy a small parcel of land that is enough for building a tiny house that’s made of native materials or traditional elements and built with modern aesthetics which is overlooking the sea. To make myself busy but not necessarily stressed, I also would tend a garden and beautify the area with flowering trees, fruits and vegetables. This would serve as my retirement home where I can just spend my days simply yet contently. Perhaps building a small food shop on the corner of this land would be nice too, offering healthy dishes with organic ingredients from the garden.
Last but not the least, it would be great to give back or share our blessings too. In particular, build sporting facilities where young athletes could train and hone their skills. Also, donate money to homes for the elderly for their medical needs and organize monthly activities for them in order to help ease their loneliness. This is just to name a few of some charity works that could be done to give back to my community.
These are the main thoughts that I have for the chosen topic for this #weekend-engagement sharing. Many thanks to @galenkp for letting us express our thoughts through these thought-provoking topics. Thank you for your time and for dropping by. Have a wonderful day to all of us!
