Good day, dear friends from Hive.blog, Ecency, and PeakD! 🌞 Today, I am writing to you with a warm cup in my hands, a fresh aroma filling my room, and my camera capturing not just the taste of coffee but also the essence of it. (Should I write "ecency"? hihihi)
If there is something universal that unites people, besides art, it must be coffee. For me, coffee is not only a drink, it is an invitation to pause, to connect with myself, and to look more deeply at the world around me.
Here in Serbia, we call it Turkish coffee or sometimes domaća kafa (domestic coffee). Interestingly, it is said that we actually drink this style of coffee even more than people in Turkey do. Imagine that! The ritual is simple: ground coffee, hot water, patience, and love. But the result is magical.
This morning, I prepared a double dose in my brand-new cup, a gift from my grandparents. I sweetened it with honey, sat at my desk, and first visited our Photography Lovers community. I planned to just take a quick look at some posts, but you know how that goes… hours later, and I was still here, scrolling through beautiful photos and fascinating stories. I even forgot to play the new episode of the series I had lined up. Coffee and Hive are a dangerous combination; they keep you awake and engaged for hours!
When you first pour Turkish coffee, it is foamy, restless, and bubbly. It almost feels closed off, like it is keeping its secrets for itself. But when the foam settles and the liquid becomes smooth, the surface turns into a mirror. You can literally see yourself in your cup! And at that moment, the coffee is no longer just a drink. It becomes personal, intimate—like a reflection of your own waiting to start the day with you.
Both coffee and photography teach us to slow down and appreciate details. The way light hits the foam, the way a shadow forms on the surface of a desk, the way steam rises like a veil of mystery—it’s all there, waiting to be noticed.
Just as we don’t gulp down coffee in one sip, we don’t just scroll past photos without stopping. ~ We take a moment. ~ We breathe them in. ~ We enjoy the aftertaste. And maybe that’s why coffee and photography belong together so naturally.
