Hello everyone, I hope you are well and everything is going smoothly. With the arrival of winter, the weather has turned cold, and unfortunately, my wife and I have both fallen ill. I can say I recovered fairly quickly, but my wife is still not feeling well. I hope she gets better soon. Other than that, everything is fine. In my last post, I shared about the famous artist Van Gogh. Today, I will talk about the Karamanoğlu Mehmet Bey complex.

Ben çok vakit kaybetmeden atlattım diyebilirim ancak eşim henüz toparlayabilmiş değil. Umarım kısa sürede o da iyileşir. Bunun haricinde herhangi bir olumsuz yok. En son gönderimde ünlü sanatçı Van Gogh hakkında paylaşım yapmıştım. Bugün ise Karamanoğlu Mehmet Bey külliyesinden bahsedeceğim.
If anyone remembers, I shared the Göksü River a few days ago. About an hour after saying goodbye to the river's mysterious-colored water, we reached the village of Balkusan. The roads were a bit rough, so we were tired and wanted to take a short break in this village. As I mentioned in my previous post, I had never traveled this route to my hometown before. Therefore, this was my first time seeing the village of Balkusan.
Hatırlayan varsa eğer geçtiğimiz günlerde Göksü Nehrini paylaşmıştım. Nehrin esrarengiz renkteki suyuna veda ettikten yaklaşık 1 saat sonra Balkusan köyüne ulaştık. Yollar biraz kötü olduğu için yorulmuştuk ve bu köyde kısa bir mola vermek istedik. Önceki gönderimde bahsettiğim üzere bu yolu kullanıp memlekete daha önce hiç gitmemiştim. Dolayısıyla Balkusan köyünü de ilk defa görmüş oldum.

Since the village was small, it wasn't difficult to find the coffeehouse. Three or five people chatting in the coffeehouse welcomed us with smiles. I really love this aspect of Anatolian people. They are very polite and hospitable to outsiders. After joining their conversation, they offered us tea. I knew that the Karamanoğlu Mehmet Bey Complex was somewhere around here. When I asked the villagers exactly where the complex was, an uncle in his 70s pointed with his cane and said, “100 meters ahead.” Since I had come this far, and it was so close, I thought it would be a shame not to visit, so I headed towards the complex.
Köy küçük olduğu için kıraathaneyi bulmamız çok zor olmadı. Kıraathanede sohbet eden 3-5 kişi bizi güleryüzle karşıladı. Anadolu insanının bu yönünü çok seviyorum. Dışardan gelen insanlara çok kibar ve misafirperver bir yaklaşım serpiliyorlar. Muhabbetlerine dahil olduktan sonra bize çay ikram ettiler. Karamanoğlu Mehmet Bey Külliyesi’nin bu civarlarda olduğunu biliyordum. Köy halkına Külliyenin tam olarak nerede olduğunu sorduğumda, 70’li yaşlardaki bir amca “bastonuyla işaret ederek 100 metre ilerde” dedi. Buraya kadar gelmişken, üstelik çok yakınken gezmeden gitmek olmaz diye düşündüm ve külliyenin olduğu yere ilerledim.
After passing through the cemetery, I reached the complex. There was no one else there. Of course, this had to do with its location. If I had been in Istanbul, I wouldn't have been able to take a step. Being alone was actually very good, both in terms of sightseeing and experiencing the spiritual atmosphere of history. When I heard the name of this place before, I imagined a large structure spread over a wide area, but instead I encountered a small building.
Mezarlığın içinden geçtikten sonra Külliyeye ulaştım. Benden başka kimse yoktu. Tabi bu bulunduğu konumla da alakalı bir durum. İstanbul’da olsaydı eğer adım atacak yer bulamazdım. Hem gezi açısından hem de tarihin manevi havasını yaşama açısından tek olmak açıkçası çok iyi oldu. Buranın ismini daha önce duyduğumda açıkçası geniş bir alana yayılmış büyük bir yapı hayal ediyordum ancak aksine küçük bir yapı ile karşılaştım.
The small courtyard consisted of an area with graves. As you might expect, there was no entrance fee or anything like that. Judging by its appearance, it had been neglected for years and was in a state of abandonment. If I remember correctly, some episodes of a TV series were filmed here. Fikret Ünlü's grave was located right next to the mosque.
Küçük bir avlusu mezarların bulunduğu alandan oluşuyordu. Tahmin ettiğiniz üzere herhangi bir giriş ücreti vs yoktu. Görünümü itibarıyla yıllardır bakımı yapılmadığı için terk vaziyette duruyordu. Yanlış hatırlamıyorsam bir dizinin bazı bölümleri burada çekilmişti. Caminin hemen yakınında Fikret Ünlü’nün mezarı bulunuyordu.
As can be seen from the signs, former minister Fikret Ünlü, who rendered great services to our district both materially and spiritually, played a major role in shaping the complex as it stands today. Even years from now, his name will likely be remembered for this contribution.
İlçemize maddi ve manevi anlamda büyük hizmetleri bulunan eski bakan Fikret Ünlü tabelalardan da anlaşılacağı üzere külliyenin günümüzdeki bu şeklini almasında büyük desteği olmuş. Yıllar geçse de belki bu katkısından dolayı ismi yıllarca hatırlanacak.
After spending about 15 minutes at the complex, I left. On my way back, I took photos from different angles. When I reached the tea house, I had a brief chat with the villagers about the complex. They said it was built about 20-30 years ago in memory of Karamanoğlu Mehmet Bey. Regardless, its architectural structure and craftsmanship greatly impressed me.
Külleye’de yaklaşık olarak 15 dakika kadar vakit geçirdikten sonra ayrıldım. Dönerken farklı açılardan fotoğraf çektim. Kıraathaneye ulaştığımda külliye hakkında köy sakinleriyle kısa süre sohbet ettik. Buranın yaklaşık 20-30 yıl önce Karamanoğlu Mehmet Bey anısına yapıldığını söylediler. Her ne olursa olsun mimari yapısı, işçiliği beni çok etkiledi.
We bid farewell to the villagers for their hospitality and pleasant conversation and continued our journey. I took photos of the village from different angles. The scenery isn't bad at all. Despite all this, the young population is quite low due to work and livelihood difficulties. As can be seen from the houses in the photos, they are all old structures, and the village population will likely decrease even further in the coming years. İkramları ve hoş sohbetlerinden dolayı köy sakinleri ile vedalaşıp tekrardan yolculuğa devam ettik. Köyün farklı açılardan fotoğraflarını çektim. Manzara olarak hiç fena durmuyor. Bütün bunlara rağmen iş ve geçim sıkıntısından dolayı genç nüfus oldukça az. Fotoğraflardaki evlerden de anlaşılacağı üzere hepsi eski yapı ve muhtemelen önümüzdeki yıllarda köy nüfusu daha da azalacak. Balkusan köyü ile ilgili anılarım bu kadar.
