I greet everyone with love. I hope you've missed me. We had a brief separation between us, but we're back together again. Last month, I told you about our international adventure. I'll tell you about a beautiful location again. I'm sure almost everyone knows this place. Without further ado, let me tell you: Mostar Bridge. ☺️
Herkesi sevgiyle selamlıyorum. Umarım beni özlemişsimizdir. Bir müddet kelimeler ile aramızda küçük bir ayrılık oldu ama yeniden buluştuk. Geçtiğimiz ay sizlere yurtdışı maceramız olduğunu söylemiştim. Yine sizlere çok güzel bir lokasyondan bahsedeceğim. Eminim burayı hemen hemen herkes biliyordur. Daha fazla zaman kaybetmeden söyleyeyim, Mostar Köprüsü. ☺️
The Mostar Bridge is located in Mostar, the city of Bosnia-Herzegovina, which takes its name from the Balkan country. Visiting it has been one of my biggest dreams since childhood. I first saw it in a textbook during my elementary school years. It always remained in the back of my mind. When I started university, a professor in my class told me that he'd been to Mostar on vacation, and I was thrilled. It reminded me of my dreams again. Call it luck or coincidence. 🙂
Mostar Köprüsü Balkan ülkesi olan Bosna-Hersek'in ismini aldığı Mostar şehrinde bulunuyor. Çocukluğumdan beri en büyük hayallerim arasında buraya gelip görmek vardı. İlkokul yıllarında ders kitabında görmüştüm ilk. Hep aklımın bir köşesinde kaldı. Üniversiteye başladığımda dersimize giren bir profesör bize tatilde Mostar'a gittiğini söylediği zaman çok heyecanlandım. Çünkü bana tekrar hayallerimi hatırlattı. Siz buna ister şans isterseniz tesadüf diyin. 🙂
As we continued our tour, our guide briefly told us about the bridge's history. He explained that the bridge was built during the Ottoman period by Mimar Hayreddin, one of Sinan's students. He also said that the stones on the bridge are slippery, so be careful not to fall. Also, be careful with your wallets; there are frequent thefts. He added that this is a year-round tourist destination, and all kinds of people come. Hearing this made me feel a little angry and sad. Also, don't start taking photos as soon as you see the bridge; we'd give you time, but we, the curious tourists, were already taking out our phones and taking pictures. 😌
Tura katılan grubumuzla birlikte ilerlerken rehberimiz bize kısaca köprü tarihinden bahsetti. Köprünün yapılma tarihinin Osmanlı Döneminde, Mimar Sinan'ın öğrencilerinden Mimar Hayreddin tarafından yapıldığını bizlere söyledi. Köprü üzerinde bulunan taşlar kaygan düşmeyin ayrıca cüzdanlarını da dikkat edin çok fazla hırsızlık olayı oluyor dedi. Çünkü burası yılın her dönemi çok fazla turist ağırlayan bir nokta ve her türlü insan geliyor dedi. Bunları duyduğumda içten içe biraz sinirlendim ve üzüldüm. Birde köprüyü görür görmez fotoğraf çekmeye başlamayın size zaman bırakıcağız denilmesine rağmen biz meraklı turistler hemen telefonları çıkarıp resim çekmeye başladık bile. 😌
There were businesses everywhere around the bridge. Anyone who wanted could eat or drink while enjoying the view. @bilginhilal and I immediately went into one to try some tea. The tea tasted very different from what we're used to. I had to say we didn't like it. Anyway, you have to savor the moment, right?
Köprünün çevresinde her yerde olduğu işletmeler vardı. İsteyen manzara eşliğinde birşeyler yiyip içme olanağına sahipti. Bizde @bilginhilal ile birlikte hemen çay denemek için bir işletmeye girdik. Çay bizim içtiğimizden çok farklı bir tada sahipti. Beğenmediğimizi söyleyebilirim. Neyse anın tadını çıkarmak gerekir öyle değil mi?
As every tourist does, we immediately went down to the lower section of the bridge and started taking photos. The architecture was so beautiful that it was evident in the eyes of everyone there. As everyone else waited, we waited for someone to jump off the bridge. Watching the lush green water relieved our bus fatigue.
Her turistin yaptığı gibi hemen köprünün alt bölümüne inerek fotoğraf çekmeye başladık. Mimarisi o kadar güzeldi ki orada bulunan herkesin gözlerinden bu anlaşılıyordu. Herkesin beklediği gibi bizde birilerinin köprüden atlamasını beklemeye başladık. Yemyeşil akan suyu izlemek bizim otobüs yorgunluğumuzu aldı.
Now, before you get too carried away, I'd like to answer this question. Why would anyone jump off this bridge? Our guide, Tolga Bey, had explained that young people collect tips on the bridge and dive into the cold water beneath it. They use the tips to fund their wedding. The main goal here is to prove they're ready and brave enough to get married. My wife and I asked our tour companions to take a photo with the bridge behind us, taking in the view and capturing the moment.
Şimdi sizlerin aklına takılmadan bu soruyu cevaplamak istiyorum. Neden birileri bu köprüden atlasın? Rehberimiz Tolga Bey burada köprünün üzerinde gençler bahşiş toplayarak köprünün altından geçen soğuk suya dalış yapıyor, burada topladıkları bahşiş ile düğün birikimi yapıyorla, burada ki temel amaç evlenmek için hazır ve cesur olduklarını kanıtlamak demişti. Eşimle birlikte tur arkadaşlarımızdan rica ederek köprüyü arkamaza alarak manzaraya dahil olup bu anı ölümsüzleştirip fotoğraf çekindik.
Next to our famous bridge, there was another, smaller one. Although overshadowed by the Mostar Bridge, this structure was a truly beautiful sight to behold. Time flew by amidst the lush greenery and colorful buildings, and we didn't even notice. I'm absolutely certain it was a place where you'd wish time would stop. Time had slowly moved toward separation.
Meşhur köprümüzün yanında nitekim daha küçük bir köprü daha vardı. Her ne kadar Mostar Köprüsü'nün gölgesinde kalsa da bu yapı görmeye değer ve çok güzel bir eserdi. Çok fazla yeşil doğanın ve renkli yapıların arasında zaman akıp geçti ve biz fark edemedik. Zamanın durmasını isteyebileceğiniz bir yer olduğuna kesinlikle eminim. Zaman yavaş yavaş ayrılığa doğru ilerlemişti.
It was time for a short tour around the bridge. As we walked through the crowd, an older man shouted in Turkish, "Come, citizens, come, here's the best trileçe tea in the Balkans." We asked him if he was sure. The women at the table said, "Don't pay attention to him; my wife always makes noise when she's around like that." We all laughed together. As we encountered them everywhere, there were souvenir shops here too. So, we did our favorite thing: buy a magnet.
Köprü çevresinde küçük bir tur atma vakti gelmişti. Kalabalık arasında yürürken yaşça bizden büyük bir abi, Türkçe gel vatandaş gel, Balkanlar'ın en iyi çayı triliçesi burda diye bağırıyordu. Bizde abi emin misin diye kendisine sorduk. Masada oturan kadın çocuklar siz ona bakmayın benim eşim hep böyle gittiği yerde illa ki ses çıkarır dedi. Hep birlikte güldük. Her yerde karşılaştığımız gibi burada da hediyelik eşya satan işyerleri vardı. Bizde en sevdiğimiz hareketi yaptık ve magnet satın aldık.
We arrived at a relatively high point, which I remember as the eastern part of the city. We saw a cat walking along the road and were quite surprised. Our guide had told us we'd encounter very few stray animals. And indeed, that's exactly what happened. We were lost in thought as we gazed at the view from among the historical buildings. You might have noticed, too. A mosque and a church stand out clearly in the same frame. It's truly a wonderful cultural melting pot.
Şehrin doğusu olarak hatırladığım kısmen yüksek noktaya geldik. Yolda bir kedinin yürüdüğünü gördük ve çok şaşırdık. Çünkü rehberimiz bize çok az sokak hayvanı ile karşılaşacaksınız demişti. Gerçektende öyle oldu. Tarihi yapıların arasından manzaraya bakarken dalıp gittik. Sizlerde belki fark etmişsinizdir. Aynı karede hem cami hemde kilise çok belirgin şekilde ön plana çıkıyor. Kültürel buluşma noktası olarak çok güzel bir örnek doğrusu.
I feel like I'm finally nearing the end. I didn't want to write this, but I've saved my sadness for last. When our guide told us that this bridge had been destroyed during the war in 1993, a bittersweet sadness washed over us all. Later, with the support of many countries, the bridge was rebuilt and restored to its original state, and in 2005, it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Artık sona gelmeye başladığımı hissediyorum. Bunları yazmayı istemezdim ama üzüldüğüm noktayı sona sakladım. Rehberimiz bizlere bu köprü 1993 yılında savaş esnasında maruz kaldı, saldırı sonucunda yıkıldı dediğinde hepimizi buruk bir hüzün kapladı. Daha sonra birçok ülkenin desteği ile köprü aslına uygun bir şekilde yeniden inşa ve restore edilmiş ayrıca 2005 yılında ise UNESCO Dünya Mirası listesine alınmış.
