Something I mentioned on my blog was that I'm working on a project to visit the entirety of Portugal, and I'm using HIVE along with YouTube to record that feat. I've been searching the internet, and there's no record of anyone who's already visited all the castles. Honestly, I've lost count with this one, haha. First things... Where are we? I'll give you the castle's coordinates. However, you can find them on Gmaps, as it's a very popular area. To visit Penela Castle, you have to go north of Portugal to the Coimbra district and look for a village called Penela, which is where the fortification's name comes from. This is located in the north-central part of Portugal, quite far from Lisbon, so if you're coming from Lisbon or Porto, I recommend stopping by the village there.🚩🚙

Te dejo las coordenadas del castillo, sin embargo, la podrás conseguir en Gmaps, ya que es una zona muy popular, para visitar el castillo de Penela tienes que ir al norte de Portugal hasta el distrito de "Coimbra" y buscar una aldea llamada: "Penela" que es de donde se origina el nombre de la fortificación. Esto se encuentra en la zona centro-norte de Portugal bastante retirado de Lisboa por ello SI VIENES de Lisboa-Porto ahí si te recomiendo hacer la parada a la aldea.😮🏰

This castle was classified as a national monument in 1910. You can contact the parish council and ask what activities you can do while visiting Penela. It's an affordable area with very basic local accommodations, but a beautiful experience. It's ideal for a quiet getaway away from the hustle and bustle of tourists, allowing you to breathe the fresh air of the mountains.🌍🧭
Este castillo fue clasificado como monumento nacional en el ano 1910, puedes dirigirte a la junta de freguesia y preguntar que actividades puedes hacer mientras estas de visita en Penela, es una zona económica con alojamiento local muy básico pero con una hermosa experiencia, ideal para aquel turismo tranquilo alejado de la confusion de los turistas y te posibilita respirar aire fresco en la sierra.😮😉

I thoroughly enjoyed the drive to the castle. The scenery is quite beautiful, and I took advantage of stopping in several villages to learn more about Portugal. Visiting the castle is recommended with your own vehicle; transportation here is terrible.🚙🚩

The castle was built at the highest point in the town of Penela, at over 200 meters. The walls are a total of 19 meters high, allowing us to climb beyond the mountain and enjoy the lush landscape toward the villages: Casal Pinto, Alem de Agua, Caldeirao, among others. El castillo fue construido en el punto mas alto de la ciudad de Penela a mas de 200 metros, las murallas tienen un total de 19 metros de altura lo que nos permite subir mas alla de la montana y disfrutar de un exhuberante paisaje hacia las villas: "casal pinto, alem de agua, caldeirao entre otras". No solo interactuas con las murallas tambien con la naturaleza.🗺️🚩
Wow! I'm speechless. I stand in front of this landscape, admiring the beauty of the north. There are no tourists, and it's the middle of summer. I'm amazed by the peace and freshness that Penela offers. It's one of the few castles where I've felt so comfortable, perhaps because it's so far away and isolated from everything!🌍🚩

If it looks like a medieval castle... and it is! But there's actually an even older history surrounding this fortress and the village of Penela. Historical records indicate that the Romans occupied these lands before the Moorish Empire emerged in Portugal, in the 1st century BC. It's believed that the castle's foundations house a piece of the structure of a Roman fortification. Incredible, isn't it?🚩📸

Pero en realidad hay una historia más antigua que envuelve esta fortaleza y la aldea de Penela, existen registros históricos que los Romanos ocuparon estas tierras antes de aparecer el imperio Moro en Portugal, esto en el siglo I antes de Cristo, se cree que las bases del castillo albergan un pedazo de estructura de una fortificación Romana. ¿Increíble no?🧭😉

There was a defensive line in north-central Portugal called the "Mondego" line. This was an imaginary line that divided almost all of Portugal into two sections. It was filled with fortifications of this type to protect the country from future Arab invasions, dating back to the time of the Reconquista.📸🚩🏰

It is not known for sure if the Celts were the first to occupy Penela, possibly because they left archaeological traces in other regions of Portugal, but how did the name "Penela" come about??? Well in Portuguese, before arriving in the city that belonged to the Arabs, King Alfonso said: "Coragem! Já estamos com o pé nela!" This translates as: have courage, we already have one foot in it. And the name PENELA could be related to "pé nela!", a crazy theory hehe🌍😮🏰
No se puede saber a ciencia cierta si los Celtas fueron los primeros en ocupar Penela, posiblemente si porque en otras regiones de Portugal ellos dejaron rastros arqueologicos, pero como nace el nombre "Penela"??? bueno en portugues el rey Alfonso dijo antes de llegar a la ciudad que era de los arabes: "Coragem! The medieval era was very hard, for soldiers life expectancy was less than 30 years, and in this castle a bloody war was fought in the 11th century.🌍📍

La era medieval fue muy dura, para los soldados la esperanza de vida era menor de 30 anos, y en este castillo se libro una guerra sangrienta en el siglo XI🗺️🚩
