As I promised my friends, I'm bringing you the second part of my experience in Montalegre, a town that had been inhabited since the Iron Age and was later inhabited by many civilizations, including the Romans. Normally in other cities of Portugal further south the Arabs were the ones who inhabited the villages until the 10th century when Henrique expelled them, but since Montalegre was not a city where they lived few or no wars, the castle added to the fact that it was isolated.🏰🚩

It all began in the 2nd century AD, where in the area where the castle is built, there was a "Roman fort," or a very old village. This is because in the 1980s, Roman coins and tombs were discovered in the surroundings of the Castle, suggesting that the Romans were already here before the Portuguese and that they possibly occupied a settlement that may also be from a Celtic group.🚩🏰
Todo comenzó en el siglo II después de cristo donde en esta zona que está construida el castillo se localizaba un "castro Romano" o sea una villa muy antigua, esto porque en la década de los ochenta se descubrieron monedas y tumbas romanas en los alrededores del Castillo, sugierendo que los Romanos ya estaban aquí antes de los Portugueses y que posiblemente ellos ocuparon un asentamiento que también puede que sea de un grupo celta.🧭📸
I just found an interesting fact. I was wrong about the Arab occupation of the area. Let's see... The Arabs didn't live in Montalegre because the castle and fortifications prevented them from taking control of these lands. Super interesting! Apparently, several battles were fought there. Before Portugal became independent, the castle belonged to the order: "Regnum Gallaeciense," which later passed to the Portuguese monarchy. However, it was never lost and has belonged to the nation to this day.🛑🌄
Acabo de encontrar un dato interesante, estaba equivocado respecto a la ocupación Árabe en la zona, a ver.... ¡No vivieron los Árabes en Montalegre porque el castillo y las fortificaciones no permitieron a ellos hacerse con estas tierras, superinteresante! Ya que aparentemente sí se libraron varias batallas. Antes de Portugal independizarse, el castillo perteneció a la orden: "Regnum Gallaeciense" posteriormente al pasar a la monarquía Portuguesa, más nunca fue perdido y perteneció a la nación hasta los días de hoy.🏰🚩

The keep is the highest point of the castle, and from here medieval soldiers had a 360-degree field of vision, surveying the entire surrounding area of Chaves and Montalegre! We have access to it and can see all the mountains, and you can actually see other castles. Building castles in the highest places allows them to connect with each other through smoke and fire to send messages.🌍📍

La torre del homenaje es el punto más alto del castillo y desde aqui los soldados medievales tenían un campo de visión de 360 grados, vigilando todos los alrededores de Chaves, y Montalegre! Nosotros tenemos acceso a él y podemos ver todas las sierras y en realidad se pueden ver otros castillos, construir castillos en los locales más altos permite con humo, fuego conectarse entre ellos para enviar mensajes.🗺️🚩

In 1273, it became part of Barroso's defensive line. At that point in history, Portugal had already gained its independence. With this fortification, the town was already secure and began to be populated at the beginning of the 13th century. In 1385, a major crisis occurred when Spain attempted to invade Portugal, leading to the Battle of Aljubarrota. During this phase, soldiers from the area were called up to join the battle that would take place further towards the center of the country.🚙🌍
En 1273 es cuando forma parte de la línea defensiva de Barroso, en ese punto de la historia ya Portugal había adquirido su independencia. Con esta fortificacion la villa ya era segura y comenzo a poblacerse en comienzos del siglo XIII. En 1385 ocurrio una gran crisis y fue cuando España intenta invadir a Portugal y se produce la batalla de Aljubarrota en esa fase los soldados de acá fueron llamados para integrarse en el combate que ocurriría más hacia el centro del país.🌄😮
