No one presses phone more than a graduate who has been in search of jobs for five years after school but her efforts were futile. That was Sabrina’s story. Even though she graduated with a first class in the accounting department, it wasn’t a guarantee that she would get a job.
On Sabrina’s bed, she has a box of pringles, a can of Pepsi and her little ring light. Luckily for her, she has stopped worrying about getting a new job. She has a man who caters to all her responsibilities but never treats her well.
Phone rings “Hello Sabrina. Check out your man’s latest post on TikTok. He posted a girl’s picture and captioned it ‘my only one” angrily, Sabrina hung up the call.
Her flat tummy started to rumble. She began to sweat profusely. The last time she felt this way was when she heard about the demise of her mum. She picked up her phone to check the post.
“This face ID should work now. What’s wrong with this naughty phone?” she complained. She expected her phone to work faster than a gun.
Immediately she unlocked her phone, she went straight to the TikTok app. On clicking on the application, she found out she mistakenly clicked on Linkedln and not TikTok.
“Oh, what did I press. How did I even get on Linkedln?,” while Sabrina was about closing the application, she saw a picture of her high school classmate.
“Isn’t this Junior?” She asked herself.
She went ahead to read his caption and found out that he was looking for an accountant in his new micro finance bank branch. That went well with Sabrina’s course at the university and she made a comment. She also sent her resume to the required mail for the job.
“Hello Junior, it’s Sabrina. I’m interested in this job,” as fast as she could, she updated her LinkedIn profile and made it well organized. Above all, she took a job worthy picture and used it as her profile picture. That was the right opportunity for her to get a job. Also, Sabrina cared less about what her boyfriend posted on his TikTok page just a minute after caring like her life depended on it. She hoped Junior still recognizes her and get her the job as the company’s owner.
Phone rings
“This girl shouldn’t call me again. I’m not interested in any boyfriend matter,” she picked the phone to hang it up but it was a different person. It was a video meeting from Junior.
She ran to her closet to get her lipgloss and most beautiful wig. She wasn’t trying to entice Junior. All she wanted was to look good just as the adage ‘first impression matters’ says. Then, she picked up the call.
“Hello Sabrina. It’s been years without connecting with you. How have you been and how’s your mum?” Junior said. Sabrina didn’t expect what she saw. Junior is now a good looking guy, with little beards, speaks well and still polite despite being a millionaire.
“I’ve been good. Though, mum is late and things got tough since then. I can barely feed myself but I’m glad I got a helper,” she said to Junior.
“Common, it’s fine. That’s not the end of life. I saw that you submitted your resume in my mail. You got this job already,” fueled by happiness, Sabrina jumped out of her bed. It was a fateful day to her. Junior smiled as he was able to make his old friend smile.
“And you will be earning half a million Naira as your salary,” she jumped up again after Junior’s speech.
Sabrina went from collecting fifty thousand Naira as her monthly allowance from her boyfriend to making ten times of the money monthly.
“That’s not all. There will be an official car and an accommodation for you. Even if you do not have a prior experience, I will get people to train you to be an expert,” then, Sabrina knelt down. It was like magic.
She remembered waking up on that day thinking it will be like every other day but it was different. It was indeed a fateful day.
“Thank you so much Junior. You don’t know what you just did. You literally changed my life in a minute,” she wept.
The call ended and Sabrina headed to the picture frame beside her television. It was her late mother’s picture frame.
“Mummy, I know you aren’t here with me but just as I have always said, I will make you proud and I just did,” she wept and wept. She missed her mother so much and was thankful to Junior.
On her date of resumption, she packed all her luggages into the driver’s car to her new official apartment. She looked at her phone, blocked and deleted her boyfriend’s contact and she started a new life in a new environment.
