Lil Metal Series : Titanium

what up gang. let's get into it with titanium eh? this metal is named after the titans from greek mythology. it's not even all that strong on its own but gets crazy high strength when you make it an alloy with other metals like iron and aluminum. it's as strong as steel but weighs almost half as much. and it's twice as strong as aluminum.

it's also naturally immune to corrosion cuz when it hits oxygen it forms a microscopic oxide layer, a kinda invisible shield that protects the rest of the metal. that's why you see it on submarines, desalination plants, and all over the place where saltwater and chemicals would eat up other metals. it's so chill with the human body too, it's called biocompatible. it doesn't cause any drama and can even bond with bone tissue, so they use it for medical implants and dental work.

it's the ninth most abundant element on earth's crust but you gotta pull it out of minerals, and that's a whole expensive process. 95% of all titanium is used in its powder form, titanium dioxide. that's the stuff that makes white paint, toothpaste, and even sunscreen. wild, eh?
