Welcome to another chapter of why can't things just be simple

So I've been on this mission lately... trying to go full open source on everything I can. Get away from the big tech tracking and subscriptions and all that garbage. A big part of that is wanting to run my own LLM models locally... on my own machine. Take back control you know?

but man It sucks

Turns out my current rig just ain't gonna cut it for the heavy lifting. So the plan was to build a new computer... something dedicated to the task. Slap Linux on there and be done with it eh.

And here's where the real headache starts. I have a great grahpics card a really solid AMD one that's a beast for gaming. But for AI workloads? It's a different story. Almost every tool. every single library and piece of software is built and optimized for Nvidia cards. It's all CUDA this and CUDA that... and my card just gets left out in the cold.

I know what some of you are gonna say But there's workarounds! You can do it! and yeah, technically there are ways to jury-rig it to work. But lets be honest. I'm not trying to spend weeks jumping through extra hoops, compiling weird drivers, and fighting with software just to get a buggy and slow result. That just ain't it dawg. There's bugs and a huge preformnce drop when you try to force it.

So I rather just do it right. It means I gotta figure out a new build with the right parts. Kinda sucks but that's the way she goes. Do it right or don't do it at all. that be the type of life I be living. The grind continues.
