>On this occasion, I will refer to some fruits native to xerophytic areas, specifically from the hamlet of El Veral, which belongs to the municipality of Torres, parish of Trinidad Samuel, in the state of Lara, Venezuela. The most notable feature of the area is its semi-arid climate, with heat prevailing almost all year round and hot winds blowing across the dusty road to the hamlet of El Veral. The landscape is adorned with plants native to the area, such as cardoons and prickly pears. Cabe destacar que dicha zona se encuentran unos frutos autóctonos llamados datos y lefarias, éstos los producen los cardones, cada uno con características especificas que es difícil confundir. Recientemente llega una tía que vive en dicho caserío con una cesta de datos y lefarias, los adultos contentos por volver a saborear éstos frutos y los más jóvenes quienes los probaban por primera vez les gustó el sabor dulzón y la textura. >It should be noted that this area is home to native fruits called datos and lefarias, which are produced by cardon cacti, each with specific characteristics that make them difficult to confuse. Recently, an aunt who lives in the village arrived with a basket of datos and lefarias. The adults were happy to taste these fruits again, and the younger ones, who were trying them for the first time, liked their sweet taste and texture. La lefaria, es de forma alargada, de color verde, al llegar a la madurez ésta se abre y deja ver su interior de color blanco con muchas semillas pequeñas de color negro, por su forma de abrir popularmente la conocen como "Brevas". >The lefaria is elongated and green in color. When ripe, it opens up to reveal its white interior with many small black seeds. Because of the way it opens, it is popularly known as “Brevas.” El dato, es de forma esférica, cuando está madura se vuelve rojiza por fuera y por dentro blancuzco y muchas semillas negras. >The fruit is spherical in shape. When ripe, it turns reddish on the outside and whitish on the inside, with many black seeds.
