SPL Weekly.png

HELLO to all Splinterlands readers of my humble blog.👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻 Welcome to yet another week of the "new" iteration of the Splinterlands Weekly Challenges 😜. The "old" Battle Challenges are now a thing of the past (at least for now?) and they have been replaced with this week's "Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge: Combo Chronicles".

For any old Hivers/Splinterlands players who've just come back and are confused, fret not! Even with the name and format tweaks, right at it's core, battles are still the foundation of these posts.

In this week's edition of my Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge: Combo Chronicles, I will do something drastically different from my usual battle showcases. Instead of war, I will become a peaceful teacher showing all new players how to most effectively navigate the topic of "Combo Chronicles".

Alright Splinterlands readers, strap on your battle boots because today we’re breaking down a duo that’s all about durability, sustain and slowly grinding your opponent down: Chanseus the Great backing up Divine Healer. If you love those matches where your tanks just won’t die and you outlast the enemy rather than blow them away, this combo is your vibe. I’ll talk synergy, ideal situations, and why you’ll want both when you’re building your Life deck.

That being said, here's some tips and tricks from Yours Truly which will hopefully help any new player who comes across this guide. Read on to find out more! 😜

No matter! I present to you — Combo Chronicles.

So without further ado, let me introduce how best to navigate this seemingly impossible task to you! 🎉

With all that being said, here is how I would advice ALL players on how you can capitalize on some of these simple strategies!

I will take advantage of this ruleset in my battle showcase today to show how 1 of my units in particular becomes a lot stronger than one would expect with NOXIOUS FUMES. Introducing the Summoner, CHANSEUS THE GREAT.

Chanseus the Great_lv1.png

Somewhere in the distant sky, perhaps just out of an eagle's sight, floats the mighty land mass known as Solaki. Solaki and its counterpart, Lunaki, have for nearly a thousand years escaped the awareness of the Splintral people, but soon the veil will be lifted. Among the most noble of the Solakari, the Sons of the Sun, is a distinctive Angel/Human hybrid known as Chanseus. From the very beginning, Chanseus was destined for greatness. The Solakari Seven watched him carefully from the time of his delivery, for they knew that someday they would need the boy. The “delivery” of this unique child was first thought to be the crash of a comet. In fact, the deathlies, the Nobles and the Thinkers alike were certain that Solaki was doomed that day. But when the comet lost its speed and landed with controlled softness, the floating continent was spared, and all that was left in the crater was a baby with strange powers. The child was declared to be the hybrid offspring of an Angel and a Human, although his true origin is quite unknown. He was named Chanseus and taken into the household of Boromo, Third of the Solakari Seven and Defender of the Sun Throne. Chanseus was speaking in a matter of weeks and solving complicated math problems in months. But most amazing were the boy's innate magical powers. Even lying in the crib, Chanseus was practicing making magical projections of himself. The illusion of a second crib with a second baby would appear across the room, and there would be no way to tell which was which. Before he knew the truth of consequences, the baby would lie on his back and shoot fireballs from his mind at the ceiling of his room. He was never aware of the chaos that ensued as his father and the servants had to put the fires out before they burned down the entire house. Boromo taught Chanseus that he was special, delivered to the Sons of the Sun in their time of greatest need, and that one day he would fulfill his sacred destiny in an unknown distant battle. He was taught that he would always be safe within the noble walls, and he was taught that the men on the outside, known as the deathlies, were never to be trusted. The magical powers of Chanseus were fostered by excellent teachers as they developed in exciting new directions. Chanseus grew in wisdom, virtue and honor, much faster than the average Solakari youth. Boromo and the rest of the Seven were anxious to see what this young man would accomplish. “They will only take from you,” Boromo would say to Chanseus between his lessons and games. “Deathlies may shovel a good coal, they may know their way around a forge, but we shan't mix with their kind. They don't need our help.” But teenage Chanseus saw things differently. Each night he would climb the tallest lookout tower of House Boromo to watch the activities in the slummy streets outside the walls, where the deathlies lived (if one could call it “living”). What he saw were people. Some were of his own kind, some were different, but all had their own lives, their own value, and all deserved better. After several years of observing the deathlies and learning their customs, Chanseus stood on the precipice of a life-changing decision. He had made several bonds of friendship among these suffering people, who all his life had been described to him as nothing more than animals. Chanseus felt unable to help them, even though he had the skill of a mage and the power of a Noble. He knew he would be severely punished if his interactions with the deathlies became known among the Seven, perhaps even imprisoned. So he continued secretly consorting with his deathlie friends. Chanseus's favorite among the deathlies was a young crippled fellow named Yuki. Yuki had been rescued (against his will) from a distant battlefield, on which his family had been slaughtered, and brought to Solaki. Chanseus formed a quick and strong bond with the youth, who in the face of his own daily squalor, smiled more and found more joy in life than anyone Chanseus had ever met. One evening as Chanseus was perched high above the city watching the nightly bustle of the deathlies begin, he saw a commotion in the candlelight of the main square. It was Yuki, and he was at the end of a Trooper's spear. It was so far away that Chanseus could not tell any more; Yuki had probably been caught stealing bread from a street stand, a habit that Chanseus had repeatedly tried to talk him out of. It didn't matter anymore. Chanseus saw clearly the moment that the spear pierced the chest of his friend, and his heart brimmed with rage and vengeance; a new burning desire for justice found a home in his soul that day. Without a sound, Chanseus made his moves in the night. It was decided. There was only one place he could go to make a difference, but he would have to renounce everything: His power, his privilege, and his destiny. The Splinterlands alone possessed the power to tilt the scales; perhaps their rulers could even free the deathlies. He sneaked into his father's study, from which he needed two crucial items for the journey, but after those, Chanseus vowed never to take again. He first took Boromo's prized magic wand, Firiadoc Jopa, from its display case. This legendary wizard's weapon would amplify his power. He then took the enshrined suit of ceremonial armor from beside the fireplace. It was not an ordinary suit; this suit was worn by a nameless Angel Visionary in the very first battle of the War of Sons and Daughters. It was sure to prove his credibility and urgency in a strange new land. Although he had never attempted personal teleportation before, Chanseus was confident in even his yet-unproven abilities, and with Firiadoc Jopa in his hand, he knew there was little danger. Looking around his father's dark, wood study one last time, Chanseus said a silent but heartfelt goodbye to the life he had known. “They'll have to find a new chosen one,” he thought to himself as he began casting the teleportation spell that would take him once and for all to the Splinterlands.

From Splinterlands Lore on CHANSEUS THE GREAT

Chanseus The Great is a Legendary card released during the Untamed expansion. It has definitely found it's place in many Life decks given its availability and usefulness. It's effects on the battlefield are REPAIR, TRIAGE and RESURRECT. It's summoning cost is, like most other Untamed Legendary Summoners, is 7 🧪MANA🧪.

hive dividers-12.png

The stat buffs it gives are nothing out of the ordinary, so at first glance, he might look pretty bland. It would seem that in terms of firepower, this summoner does almost nothing to boost your team. However, in a defensive game, all his abilities makes this Summoner one of the strongest in the game!

First, his ability REPAIR will continuously restore the armour of one of your units every turn. Next, his TRIAGE ability will restore the HP of one of your backline units. Lastly, when all else fails, RESURRECT can bring back the first unit who falls on the battlefield! 👼

In a game with a ruleset like NOXIOUS FUMES, Chanseus the Great is the undisputed King of the hill! All his abilities serve to counter this ruleset and give your units the additional support needed to survive this gruelling encounter.

This could make all the difference if the battle comes down to the wire where the slightest advantage is the fine line between victory or defeat! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 This is definitely what I'd consider game changing! 😱😱😱

⚔️🛡️My Battle Showcase🛡️⚔️

hive dividers-12.png

Let me present a battle I fought recently in which the ruleset NOXIOUS FUMES was in effect. My opponent used the Chaos Legion edition Summoner Kelya Frendul from the WATER splinter as his main pick, while I used the Untamed edition Summoner Chanseus The Great from the LIFE splinter. 🌊 VS 👼

At first glance, it would seem like I was at a distinct disadvantage.

  • My opponent was using an offensive team meant to take me down ASAP.

  • He had an overwhelming unit superiority as he fielded double the number of units compared to me.

  • This gave his entire team a huge advantage in terms of DPS.

  • His units were also higher levelled as compared to mine which were all at level 1.

  • To exacerbate matters, Kelya Frendul also gave all his units a pretty huge advantage with his speed and armour buffs.

I was honestly expecting this to be a really bad matchup for me 😜🤣. This was a team who had an innate advantage in this ruleset. His team had one purpose only and that was to overwhelm my team with sheer numbers. Would I be able to turn the tide of battle against such an opponent then? Victory or defeat would lie in the small details.

I would say that the ruleset NOXIOUS FUMES was DEFINITELY the MVP of this match, having played it's role in turning the tide of battle. The advantage it gave my team resulted in me outlasting my opponent in this battle. It definitely provided the edge that I needed to overcome my opponent.

This ensured that the other units could eventually wear down the opponent until victory was achieved! 🏆🏆🏆

1st CARD SLOT

The Blinding Reflector is chosen for this slot. He plays the role of the Main tank perfectly with his great stats. His high health stats and armour will also allow him to have much longer staying power on the battlefield. This allows all other units to be kept safe until he is taken down.

2nd CARD SLOT

The Divine Healer occupies this slot. It's main role here to keep the main tank healed.

Noxious Fumes.gif

As you can see, both of us fielded very different units in our matchup. My opponent went for a mixture of melee and ranged units, which I was putting all my faith in just my tank and healer. 😱

🌊WATER🌊 VS 👼LIFE👼

My opponent used the Xenith Monk as his tank in the 1st slot which was a VERY good choice. With his great defensive stats and HEAL ability, this is a unit which will protect it's entire team until it falls.

The Furious Chicken occupied his 2nd slot and was there likely as a sacrificial unit or SNIPE fodder.

The Pirate Captain and Halfling Alchemist completed the rest of his team as his ranged DPS.

All in all, I would say that the opponent picked a really strong team.

My choice of the Main Tank was the Blinding Reflector who is perfect for this task. He has really high defensive stats in order to take extra hits to ensure that all the other units are protected. This allows it to last longer on the battlefield.

The Divine Healer was my only other unit and it had one job only. That was to HEAL my main tank.

As you can see here, I was betting the house on just 2 units. It was a high risk strategy indeed.

The battle started out with all our units just duking it out pound for pound. It was a low mana game with 21 mana as the limit. The rulesets were CLOSE RANGE & MELEE MAYHAM.

  • The first round saw both our sides launch a flurry of attacks. Both teams took a damage trading blows, but neither side suffered much damage.

  • The start of Round 2 though was devastating as NOXIOUS FUMES dealt it's poison damage to everyone.

  • The opponent lost his Furious Chicken and Halfling Alchemist just like that.

  • In the meantime, my units were hanging on thanks to the double heal from Chanseus and the Divine Healer.

  • Round 3 saw the opponent's Pirate Captain die in similar fashion as NOXIOUS FUMES once again damaged everyone.

  • Through it all, my units were kept from the brink of death thanks to the healing power consistently topping up my health.

  • It was all over for the opponent now as I eventually mopped up his entire army. 💀💀💀

Talk about doing WAY MORE than it was supposed to!!! 😱🤯🥳 All I expected was for the NOXIOUS FUMES ruleset to give me a slight advantage. Individually, on their own, my units would face a huge disadvantage against an enemy which had the numerical and level advantage. However, thanks to the healing and repairing abilities from Chanseus, I was able to turn the tide of battle! The opponent simply could not handle all that at all.

Well as you can see here in this GIF of my battle, the results were pretty good! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

This was truly an eye opener! 😁🏆

Slowly, but surely, I wore down the opponent's team and the match ended up with me inflicting a crushing defeat. My team selection proved to be the edge I needed to eventually overpower my opponent. 💪🏻

🔮🔮🔮Hindsight is 20/20🔮🔮🔮

hive dividers-12.png

Would I have done anything differently? 🤔 This might have seemed like a disadvantage at the start but I ended up winning handily. IF I had to use the same cards again, there would be no better lineup than what I had already used for the match. Any other combination MIGHT have resulted in a loss for me. I'm really satisfied with the results against such a worthy opponent. 🏆🥇

I definitely can appreciate Combo Chronicles and how it changes the dynamics of usual gameplay. This is one of those situations which can be turned into a huge advantage if surrounded with the proper strategies. The role it brings to the battlefield will give a player the edge in squeezing out every tiny advantage to get the win. 👍🏻

I hope this article has given you some insight into its potential. 😉
