Recorriendo el malecón de la ciudad, tuve la dicha de visitar las estatuas de dos grandes artistas e íconos de Barranquilla. Ambas son mujeres nacidas en esta tierra cálida y llena de sabor, que han llevado el nombre de Barranquilla por todo el mundo, cada una a su manera.
La estatua de Shakira fue inaugurada en el año 2023, mide aproximadamente 6.5 metros de altura y está hecha en bronce y aluminio. Decidieron hacerla porque sirve como inspiración para muchos jóvenes, especialmente mujeres, y es una figura cultural global, sobre todo por su música y danza. Su placa dice lo siguiente: “Un corazón que compone, unas caderas que no mienten, un talento inigualable, una voz que mueve masas y unos pies que marchan por el bien de la niñez y la humanidad.”
Por otra parte, la estatua de Sofía Vergara la inauguraron justo en este mes (julio) de este año (2025). Tiene 7.5 metros de altura y pesa aproximadamente 5.5 toneladas. El motivo de hacerla es un reconocimiento al impacto global de Sofía como actriz y empresaria. Además, el alcalde considera que Sofía "nunca ha dejado de ser barranquillera", porque con su autenticidad y fuerte identidad costeña inspira orgullo entre los habitantes de su ciudad. Y es que solo con verla en la serie Modern Family se entiende perfectamente lo dicho anteriormente.
La verdad, no había tenido la oportunidad de ver estas lindas esculturas, sobre todo porque tiende a llenarse bastante de personas. Sin embargo, este espacio tan lleno de vida me recordó que Barranquilla no solo es carnaval, también es cuna de talento internacional.
Así que si estás en la ciudad o piensas venir, no dudes en darte una vuelta por el malecón. Es perfecto para caminar, tomar fotos, cambiar de ambiente, disfrutar del atardecer y, por supuesto, hacerle una visita a estas dos leyendas vivientes que hoy están inmortalizadas en su casa: Barranquilla ❤️.

To tell the truth, I had not had the opportunity to see these beautiful sculptures, especially because it tends to get quite crowded. However, this space so full of life reminded me that Barranquilla is not only carnival, it is also a cradle of international talent.
So if you are in the city or plan to come, do not hesitate to take a stroll along the boardwalk. It's perfect for walking, taking pictures, changing the atmosphere, enjoying the sunset and, of course, paying a visit to these two living legends who today are immortalized in their home: Barranquilla ❤️.
