Motivation and discipline. They are just as important. But let say you have to choice either one or rank them. Which one is more important than the other?
I will beat my chest and say discipline. Why? Let's all do a little thought experiment here. Just imagine you have to work on something that you have absolutely no interest at all, so you can only rely on your discipline to get it done.
No motivation will come rescue you from the task. You only need nothing but discipline to get it done. Think of it this way, you need to develop the skill of discipline whether you like the task or not. Even in the best case scenario that you are very passionate about writing a book, you simply cannot rely on your motivation to get it done.
You need discipline. You commit to writing 3 hours a day. You wake up everyday and work on it. No bullshit. Not telling yourself that I'm tired today. I'm not motivated today.
Motivation sucks.
