Last weekend I spent a wonderful day with my family on the Nera River, near Bela Crkva in Serbia. The place is truly magical – untouched nature, a small and shallow river, with crystal-clear and refreshingly cold water. Two fallen trees lying in the river added even more charm to the scenery, making it a perfect spot for relaxation and family time.
U subotu sam sa porodicom proveo divan dan na reci Neri, nedaleko od Bele Crkve. Ovo mesto me je zaista oduševilo – priroda je netaknuta, reka mala i plitka na ovom delu, sa bistrom i hladnom vodom. U vodi se nalaze i dva oborena stabla koja dodatno daju posebnu čar ovom predelu.
The Nera River springs in Romania, flows as a natural border between Serbia and Romania, and finally joins the Danube near the village of Stara Palanka.
Reka Nera izvire u Rumuniji, a jednim delom čini prirodnu granicu između Srbije i Rumunije. Svoj tok završava ulivajući se u Dunav kod naselja Stara Palanka.
What makes this river truly unique is its spiritual importance. Every year on January 19th, during the celebration of Epiphany in the Serbian Orthodox Church, a great ceremony of blessing the waters is performed on both sides of the Nera. Metropolitan Nikanor of Banat blesses the river from the Serbian side, while Bishop Lukijan of Timișoara does the same from the Romanian side.Because of this long-standing tradition, the Nera is also called the “Banat Jordan”, in remembrance of the baptism of Jesus Christ in the River Jordan.
Ono što ovu reku čini posebno značajnom jeste i tradicija pravoslavlja. Svake godine, 19. januara, kada Srpska pravoslavna crkva slavi Bogojavljenje, na Neri se održava Veliki čin osveštavanja reke. Mitropolit Banatski Nikanor osveštava reku sa srpske strane, dok sa rumunske strane isto čini Episkop Temišvarski Lukijan. Upravo zbog ove tradicije, Neru nazivaju i Banatskim Jordanom, u sećanje na krštenje Isusa Hrista u reci Jordan.
For me and my family, this day was a peaceful retreat in nature, enriched by the history and spiritual heritage of the place.
