Hi everyone!
I recently took a trip to Shrewsbury to the far west of England, near the border with Wales. I wrote about the journey on foot in another post, this one will be showing what the town is like from an aerial perspective
The setting is beautiful- the River Severn meanders through the valley, quaint streets with period buildings, pubs & shops, pristine parks & manicured gardens.
Using a park to the north, the main highlights are; the castle, a prison and the railway station.
The blue building on the river in the foreground is a popular bar- The Salopian.
An area being redeveloped next to a huge shopping centre with tasteful architecture in line with the period buildings around it.
I walked a short distance through the centre of town to another park near the 'neck' of the river as it loops back on itself. Unfortunately at the time, the sun was shining directly into the lens. I took lots of exposure brackets and a few of the resulting images appear to have benefitted from that!
The castle and grounds are over a thousand years old and built using sandstone. It is almost at the middle point at the 'neck' of the river, just above it in the distance is the park I was in previously.
I was surprised how small the castle is considering the size of the town, the strategic defensive position on the river and overlooking the town.
The small folly (tower) in the foreground was added as a decoration to the grounds.
Looking south west along the river- apartment blocks and a riverside park.
View from above the river looking into town. It was difficult to battle the light as I was shooting directly into the sun, picked up a bit of lens flare on this one!
A different view of the 18th century prison. It ceased operations in 2013 and is now open to the public for tours.
The Shrewsbury Folk festival was being held close by so I grabbed a few shots of the area whilst I was bringing the drone back home.
On the way out of the town I drove past this photogenic clock tower. With its clean brick work and bright white clock face, I had to pull over and get some shots of it.
It would be great to fly closer to the narrow, picturesque streets but the winds were quite high over the duration of my visit so I kept well away from anything.
I had to wait for an opportune moment to start the 360 pano function. After trying to point the gimbal straight up a few times, the drone finally just about caught it!
I hope to visit again soon!
Until the next time!
