Hey everyone!

As mentioned, a few posts featuring Cornwall are coming up.

This one covers Fistral Beach on the north coast which is best known for being the home of British surfing! I have wanted to try and catch surfers with the drone for a long time- mainly for the dynamic presentation of moves but also top down shots of waves crashing and receding.

On any given day, people are learning and /or veterans can be seen waiting further out of the swells in the stillness of the water for the opportune moment to get up on the board.

On this particular day, we arrived around two hours before the 5pm punch out time. At that time, some classes were ongoing and a few people were in the water. We had a late lunch in a cafe on the cliff so we could also people watch which was fascinating.

Como ya se mencionó, próximamente publicaré algunas publicaciones sobre Cornualles.

Esta trata sobre la playa Fistral, en la costa norte, conocida por ser la cuna del surf británico. Llevo mucho tiempo queriendo capturar a los surfistas con el dron, principalmente por la dinámica presentación de los movimientos, pero también por las tomas aéreas de las olas rompiendo y retrocediendo.

Cada día, se puede ver gente aprendiendo y/o a veteranos esperando, más allá del oleaje, en la quietud del agua, el momento oportuno para subirse a la tabla.

Ese día en particular, llegamos unas dos horas antes de las 17:00, hora de salida. A esa hora, había clases en curso y había gente en el agua. Comimos tarde en una cafetería en el acantilado para poder observar a la gente, lo cual fue fascinante.

The closer the time got to 5pm, it almost seemed like a regional bulletin was announced in the area as vans were pulling up wherever they could with people of all ages excited to make the most of the swells. I honestly have no idea about what to look for and how to tell there is good surf but so many people were running down the coastal paths to the sea which was wholesome to watch.

Below you can see all the surfers 'waiting in line' for the right conditions for them.

A medida que se acercaban las 5 p. m., parecía casi como si se anunciara un boletín regional en la zona, pues las furgonetas llegaban a todos lados con gente de todas las edades emocionada por aprovechar al máximo las olas. Sinceramente, no tengo ni idea de qué buscar ni cómo saber si hay buenas olas, pero mucha gente corría por los senderos costeros hacia el mar, lo cual era un espectáculo.

Abajo pueden ver a todos los surfistas haciendo fila para encontrar las condiciones ideales.

I mainly captured video throughout the whole afternoon due to the nature of the subject and motion of the waves but I was able to photograph a couple of surfers that stood up for a while!

Principalmente capturé videos durante toda la tarde debido a la naturaleza del tema y el movimiento de las olas, ¡pero pude fotografiar a un par de surfistas que se quedaron de pie por un rato!

Coincidently, a group of teams were practicing Gig Rowing/ racing. As featured in a previous post about rowers in Mounts Bay- Gig is the type of boat used to race.

Part of the beach was cordoned off and the lifeguards announced that the area was off limits to surfers.

Two small lifeboats were also present and followed the rowers as they covered the course. From what I could gather from the air- the race begins on the beach, the team members worked together to move the boat into the water, jumped in a rowed to a set of bouys to navigate around then head back to the beach.

Casualmente, un grupo de equipos estaba practicando remo Gig. Como se mencionó en una publicación anterior sobre remeros en Mounts Bay, el nombre Gig hace referencia al tipo de embarcación que se usa para competir.

Parte de la playa estaba acordonada y los socorristas anunciaron que la zona estaba prohibida para los surfistas.

Dos pequeños botes salvavidas también estaban presentes y siguieron a los remeros mientras cubrían el recorrido.

Por lo que pude ver desde el aire, la carrera comienza en la playa. Los miembros del equipo trabajaron juntos para introducir el bote en el agua, saltaron y remaron hasta un conjunto de boyas para navegar y luego regresaron a la playa.

This image doesn't quite show it but the boats got huge air as they went over the waves! ¡Esta imagen no lo muestra exactamente, pero los barcos volaron muchísimo al pasar sobre las olas!

Next time, I will definitely try to get closer- should weather be on side as I wouldn't want to get in the way of surfers enjoying their day. The sound of the waves crashing is no doubt louder than the drone but I still err on the side of caution.

La próxima vez, sin duda intentaré acercarme más, si el tiempo acompaña, ya que no quiero molestar a los surfistas que disfrutan de su día. El sonido de las olas rompiendo es sin duda más fuerte que el zumbido, pero aun así prefiero ser precavido.
