#WednesdayWalk Around Shrewsbury.

Hello walkers of Hive!

I visited the incredibly beautiful town of Shrewsbury.

Starting by the river to the north, this area is not as built up as the rest of the centre, some building work is going on.

Heading into the town, there are plenty of buildings that I found either had an interesting design or uniques period features:

Although these timber buildings look rickety, they are structurally sound! Screenshot 2025-09-03 at 19.34.00.png

The Kings Head is my favourite. I love the intricate designs in the wood work but also that it curves slightly outward! (seen above) Screenshot 2025-09-03 at 19.34.38.png

Others are renovated to a higher finish! Screenshot 2025-09-03 at 19.33.24.png

Some shops from more recent centuries.. Screenshot 2025-09-03 at 19.32.30.png

West of the centre of town is a large park with views of the river as it snakes through the small valley. Overlooking it at the top is a church with a unique circular extension. Screenshot 2025-09-03 at 19.36.51.png Some other features in the park include:

A war memorial, bandstand and an iron bridge. Screenshot 2025-09-03 at 19.36.36.png Screenshot 2025-09-03 at 19.39.47.png

A big draw to the park is The Quarry - an ornate garden located in the middle of it.

One of a few main entrances into the area. Screenshot 2025-09-03 at 19.38.01.png Screenshot 2025-09-03 at 19.41.48.png It has sculptures in variety of conditions, a lake, manicured flower beds.

Screenshot 2025-09-03 at 19.40.06.png Other entrances had a pillar each side to support gates. Screenshot 2025-09-03 at 19.39.30.png

Lastly, I took a short drive out into the countryside Pistyll Rhaeadr, a huge waterfall just a short journey away by car. There is a route to hike to the top but we arrived near closing time and happy to chill at the bottom.

The car park here is privately owned, these gates with great metal work are found at the end of a bridge crossing the river once you go inside. Screenshot 2025-09-03 at 19.35.48.png

I would highly recommend a visit to the town to anyone on holiday in the area, not only because there is so much to see and history to absorb but also as is is close to Wales, its a great hub to continue the journey onwards.

Until the next time!
